Righto squad....
Finally scrimped, saved and generally bent over backwards (ooh err) to get the core of my new gaming machine built.
Wasn't able to get a graphics card for now as finances simply didnt allow. Was more keen to get the base built and clocked properly at least.
So I am sitting with the following:
Core i5 4670K
Asrock Z78m Extreme 4
Corsair CX750M
Crucial Ballistix Tactical 8GB Kit (4GBx2) DDR3-1866 PC3-14900
120GB Samsung 840 EVO SSD Basic
Fractal 1000 USB3.0
Arctic Cooler i30
Lovely setup.....very compact and I am pleasantly surprised at the quality of the case for 30 quid. Quite baffling.
Anyway...I have a few questions as I am sure you guessed.
Overclocking:
Ok, so I mucked about in the Asrock UEFI BIOS for a bit and was able to allow it to "Auto" overclock the system to 4.2Ghz very easily. Now...i just wanted to find out what your thoughts on how good quality an overclock that might be? My one concern was when i noted that the memory was only popping along at 1333Mhz. Back in my day (Q6600) the memory clock counted for quite a bit. Should i be trying to take a bit more control to bump this up as i specifically went for a RAM with some headroom. Could anyone offer any pointers on this with this particular board?
Strictly not "overclocking" specific, but kinda related.....I was gutted when i saw the i30 not fitting in my case
should have researched that before hand and i knew it was big but bloody hell.....it is massive. Does anyone know what worthwhile (and budget) air coolers will fit inside a Fractal 1000? Bear in mind, any overclocking discussion above is running the stock Intel cooler.
Gfx:
Man alive is my head pickled with this graphics card malarkey. I had originally planned to go with a GTX770 as i simply cannot stretch to a 780 etc.....but i am starting to see very positive feedback for the AMD cards....even down to the R9 270x......this board does SLI and crossfire so whatever i get, can (and probably will) be doubled up in the future if I think the machine is struggling with what i play. Oh, FYI....that will be Crysis 3, Bioshock Inf and BF4 etc.
Issues:
Finally....not sure if this is a specific issue with the MB, I guess i am reaching out to anyone who has the same board......i am noticing the sound from the Realtek HD audio popping when a sound is played....best example is clicking through windows folders....that lovely wee click noise is drowned out by a pop at the start and end of the noise.
Reverting to using the HDML sound output....the pop is gone. I do however want to use the HD audio. Any other ASrock owners had anything similar? Latest (and various attempts at other) drivers for everything etc.
Cheers gang
