My SATA drive is detected in the BIOS but no primary IDE is detected (because I haven't installed one. The sata drive comes up as IDE master 3 but when the motherboard says no hard disk drives detected.

Any ideas thanks This is first power on and I'm a n00b.

If it's a brand new disk it might well need a partition setting before it can be recognised by anything other than the bios, either run fdisk in dos or look in windows drive manager.

It can see the disk and I can now boot from the disk but it is not the primary master. The error message of No Hard Drives Detected still comes up at boot.

There are options in the BIOS for storage configuration. I've left it at IDE, but there is ACHI and one other I can't remember without being at the PC.
