***PC NOW BUILT PICS AND IMPRESSIONS BELOW**

Hey guys, was going to do a slight rebuild on my current spec but have decided to do a full build of up to £1000 since I have the funds available.

What I can keep over from the previous build is my Corsair TX 650W PSU which is perfectly capable for a new build, my 22" Monitor is ideal in the meantime. Also full version Windows 7 so again no need to worry about things such as an OS.

I do have a GTX280 but I would like to upgrade that of course.

No preference to AMD/Intel, currently running a Q6600 @ Stock speeds.

Basically go wild with specs up to £1000, looking to buy and build this week :D

Thats the spec I've came up with around the £1000 mark(exclude shipping since I get that for free), slightly over I know, for the system. :) looks like it would be fairly balanced, of course opinions, edits and other suggestions more than welcome.

Especially below the £1000 mark too ;)

I lowered the gfx card and added an SSD + larger storage. You can always add another 5850 gfx card when games require it which shudn't be too soon. SSD gets missed from a lot of specs on these forums but I can't rate them enough. System is just so snappy.

So you think the SSD would be worthwhile for me? Obviously I dont know much about them other than how fast they are.

I take it I would install Win 7 on that and then just install things like programs downloads etc onto the 1tb HDD to keep the SSD nice and clean?

Decided to give an AMD system a try, looks like I can squeeze a bit more from the funds ;) How does this look?

For around £950 this could be a goer!

This motherboard is probably one of the best AM3 boards out there.

and then the only other thing I would change is the cooler to this:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-000-TL&groupid=701&catid=57&subcat=1395

with a couple of vipers running a push/pull configuration.

Cheers franco! Gareth in CPU section suggested the same Motherboard as yourself.

As for the Cooler that could be worth considering.

Trying to decide between an Intel System without the SSD or an AMD with it now, seems to be the only dilema I have left

Well,

I think the only big advantage the SSD's have are faster game loading times and faster pc boot up (if this is for gaming).

It's up to you, I don't how much your time is worth but if you can wait an extra 5 or 10 seconds I'd just go with the INTEL build :D.

If you go for the INTEL build thou I would swap that OCZ Gold memory for Corsair instead, OCZ gold tends to produce rubbish sticks.

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-205-CS

This would be better.

And if you want triple channel memory then this is the i7 to get:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-320-IN&groupid=701&catid=6&subcat=1272

The Nehalem i7 you quoted only supports dual channel memory and 1156 socket so it wouldn't be compatible with the motherboard you quoted. (which btw is an excellent choice for triple channel memory).

If that's stretching your budget a lil then I'd just downgrade the bluray drive unless you really want bluray.

Cheers Franco....final two specs here....one with the SSD and AMD

One with Intel and no SSD

Now its almost toss a coin, leaning towards the intel and forgetting about the SSD.

The problem is I keep looking at the AMD system and thinking without the SSD its £150 cheaper

Hey guys, so the PC is now up and running and after around 2 hours of build time I seriously couldn't be happier with the result :D

The Build was fine, the Lian Li PC-7FN isn't too obtrusive in size and provides a good ammount of scope for some decent cable management, something I am fairly uneducated in it must be said. The HDD tray is great for sliding in and out and also has the mounts for SSD's, ideal. It also looks class with the brushed Aluminium and is sooooooooooo light it's insane.

The Corsair SSD was money well spent indeed, that little 64GB drive has everything running like lightening and when I need to use the Samsung 1TB for gaming its perfectly fine which is brilliant.

The idle temps on both the CPU and the HD5870 are fantastic, both idling at exactly the same temp of 38-39 degrees C. So the Zalman fan @ £32.99 seems ideal value and the Powercolour cooler for 5870 seems much more efficient than the stock version.

Performance wise I've yet to run any benchmarks or anything but everything is just so smooth and fast I haven't taken the time to check it out yet. Also overclocking is off the table for now, letting everythin bed in ;)

Only problem I had was the correct voltage on the Ram but once at 1.65V it was all perfectly normal :)

....and finally a shot of my amBX plus the on wall monitor :D

It certainly seems that despite the price this is already proving to be a great value setup as I know I woulda paid a lot more for this built elsewhere.

Like the lighting!!!

What have you got booting from the Crucial SSD? i'm thinking of getting it for booting the OS? I bet it boots in seconds?
