new build for cad only

Need some advice on building a new system that will be used for CAD.
Thinking i will need a decent CPU, mobo, memory and graphics.
Any advice would be more than welcome

What's your requirements regarding professional graphics cards? Consumer card compatibility with the software can be a problem.

Budget around £500.00.

what CAD is it? 2d? 3d? static/dynamic? it might be easier for us to spec for you

CAD software will be for basic use only, kitchen design and plans.

Will you be rendering photorealistic images or just designing using the software? What suite is it?

Just to say i have not purchased any CAD software as yet and need to look at the best option that will suit my needs.

Just designing using most CAD software doesn't require a monster of a machine. Not for things like kitchens. If I were you I'd find some software you like and test it on what you have now. It may run fine and save you the hassle of upgrading.

Yeah, £600 probably the minimum for a decent i5 2500k rig, but well worth it imo.

If it's CAD why not a quadro card. Search the net for a card called NVS 295.

I think it would be a bit overkill to get a quadro card for designing. Also if you do own the computer in your sig, it looks good enough to do the job

My main rig is used for gaming and crushing anything i throw at it with ease!
The new rig is for a family friend who runs a small company.

Whats the make and model of the PSU? you dont want a £10 cheapy powering that.

Its in the loft at the mo, It"s a silverstone 750 watt modular. Don"t feel like i ought to part with it, But at least it will keep the price down. Family comes first i recon.
