Hi everyone, i've updated my rig about two years ago now, and with christmas coming up i've decided to upgrade again. I haven't really looked into technology and best possible solutions for a new build, but i've came up with a general setup that i would like, and i wonder whether there is anything you guys would personally change? I haven't included an optical drive, gpu, ram since i will be using my old ones, until i actually build up enough budget for a beastly gpu.

Here's a screenshot and please tell me what you think and if there is anything you would change.

P.S. I realise i've used a competitors website, i suppose we could ignore this for now since im not really advertising. [?]

Updated list:

ITEM 1 - Corsair H100i Hydro Series
ITEM 2 - MSI Z87-GD65
ITEM 3 - i7 4790K
ITEM 4 - Corsair 128GB Corsair Force LX Series SSD
ITEM 5 - 650W EVGA SuperNOVA 650 G1, Full Modular
ITEM 6 - Thermaltake Core V31 Mid Tower

Budget around 650 Pounds [currently]

You will have to remove as it has competitor pricing on there, and we can tell which supplier it is.. Sorry.

I suggest you list it as.

Item 1
Item 2
Item 3

£XXX

And give us you're overall budget..

Sound good?

What is your current specification too? And what resolution do you game at?

Updated,

Current specs - i5 3470, 7850 ATI 1GB (:( ) , Ive got corsair vengeance 2x4 1600MHZ ram, seagate baraccuda 1TB storage drive. I game at 1080p res, however for streaming games and counter strike i downgrade to 720p.

Yeah, i realise that i5 should be more than enough, however when it comes to computers i really like to have more than i actually need. Sometimes i like to edit videos, sometimes i just like to showoff, so i definitely want an i7 for my new rig.

As for the start i would be alright with my old gpu since the game i nolife mostly now is CSGO, which doesn't require that much gpu power, so i thought i would leave gpu for later (about 1-2months)

Okay.

Personally I don't think you're in need of a new PSU, the CX500 is a good budget unit. If I were you I'd look at getting a bigger SSD, the mx100 256gb is only £80. Bargain.

Also I'd opt for a Z97 motherboard, as well as having more featured designed for the DC chips (4790k being one of them) it is also touted to support broad well CPUs. Offering a small upgrade path.

As upgrade paths go, of may be worth checking out the gigabyte BK edition boards as they offer a 3 year upgrade warranty with them. Meaning within 3 years you can swap your has well motherboard for a skylake/skymount equivalent, at no cost. It may be a more expensive option now but if the upgrade bug hits in 2-3 years time, you're sorted.

Gigabyte also offer £32.50 cash back on that board (ud3h bk) when bought with a 4790k, check out ocuks 4790k + ud3h bk bundle. With all those caviats it a great buy.

Thanks for the answer, I will definitely look into that. Although I'm not sure whether 500w would be enough to power up an i7 overclocked with an H100i, + a new GPU coming in 1-2month time. As for the GPU I'm looking at 980.

Unless you gear up for SLI by grabbing a 750-850w PSU you won't be pulling over 450w.

TTL did a test with a corsair RM450. He put an OCed 4770k and an OCed GTX 780 on it (with a h100i) and ran it fine through some games and benchmarks.

The 980 is more/or at least the same as efficient as the 780 so you shouldn't see any issues.

The 9** series is very energy efficient.

I don't see your current mobo listed in the spec. Depending on your board, a secondhand 3770k would allow you to upgrade your Gpu. Sell off the bits you no longer need.
