Hi All

I am helping my bro with a new build, he wants a machine which has good processor power but does't need high power gfx, and low cost too. So after a quick look around on OCUK, I chose these bits, anyone see any obvious or potential issues with this.

Note: He already has a case, CDROM and OS etc

Thanks for any help/advice give.

Cheers,
Krib.

Mobo:

Abit IP35 Pro (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

Processor:

Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "Energy Efficient SLACR 95W Edition" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - Retail

Ram:

GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-8500C5 1066MHz Black Dragon DDR2 Dual Channel Kit

Gfx:

Gainward BLISS GeForce 8600 GT 256MB GDDR3 HDTV/DVI/HDMI (PCI-Express)

HDD:

Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 320GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM

i'd drop the memory to pc6400 version, no need for the 8500 with the q6600.

maybe change the mobo to the Asus P5Q Intel P45 or the pro version.

depending how much disk space he wants maybe swap the disk to the 250gb version, as its quicker.

I'm not meaning to be funny, but surely the Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 250GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (ST3250410AS) would actually be slower than the Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 320GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (ST3320613AS). The 250GB is an older drive and it's platter has less aureal density, added to this any tests I've seen show the newer 7200.11 drives perform better. However, how this difference would translate into real world performance is debatable.
