New Build For New Year 2011 , Any Good

Will be using p.c for CS5 & Microsoft Word 2010 + internet surfing .

keyboard & mouse not needed :p:p

AMD® Phenom™ II X4 830 (2.8GHz, 6MB Cache)
Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium 64bit - English
6144MB Dual Channel DDR3 [2x2048 + 2x1024]
1TB (7200rpm) SATA Hard Drive
ATI Radeon™ HD 5450 1GB DDR3 graphics
Dell Ultrasharp U2311H 23" Widescreen LCD Monitor

Advice please :p:p

If you are getting a new PC for 2011 and will be using it for CS5 - I strongly suggest you wait till January 9th and Intel's release of their next generation "sandy bridge"CPUs. Looking at this preview they will be very quick.

+1

It would be foolish to buy a new system now, with a new range of chips coming out next month!

Laptops for show desktops for go ;)

My laptop is still good enough

Dell Inspiron 1720 T7500 @ 2.20GHz
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium
Seagate 500GB X 2 7200 RPM
4096MB 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM
17.0" UltraSharp™ Wide Screen WUXGA (1920x1200)
nVidia® GeForce™ Go 8600M GT with 256MB DDR2

Which is why you should wait and see how they are priced and how they perform?

and when they are released they'll announce a new super awesome chip/graphics card or mobo etc which will be released a few month later so if you do that you'll be waiting forever to get a system.

Theres always something else around the corner if your willing to wait.

This is the first proper Intel architecture update (Tock) since November 2008 (just over two years ago) - It is happening in 3 weeks (21 days).

If you are planning to buy a new system which will be used for CPU heavy applications - then waiting this relatively short time does make sense, especially if you have a system that will tide you over.

Best thing you can do is to price up an Intel system- i5-760 probably- and when it comes to Sandy Bridge release, get the equivalent processor and motherboard then, for a very similar price.

I'd normally advise "just buy when you need", but this is one of those cases where Moore's Law isn't strictly applying. If you wait for less than 3 weeks, you can get a ~20% performance upgrade for the same price.

If it was 3 months, I'd say to buy now.
