New build for niece

doesnt have to look similar if its replicating my build for one of them. Wouldnt want them arguing that 1 is more powerful than the other. They can look different, but if they perform at the same kind of level then ideal :)

Right, got it.

The CPU is roughly equivalent, I've done the same size of memory (doesn't make sense to buy DDR4 at current prices) and a graphics card that is close(ish).

Swap out the motherboard for the MSI B760 GAMING PLUS WIFI DDR4 which can be had for £110 from tetras build and use your 32gb from your pc .

why spend 1k on a old intel package with no upgrade path..not really understanding this...just get a 9600x b650/b850 setup..at least down the line you can shove in an x3d cpu down the line if their gaming hobby continues

You have just made me think that your right and the original suggestion of the 9600 build should be built.

Omg lol. What to do. Everyone has been so so helpful

if it helps, I have 2 kids, one's just starting uni in 2 weeks and other just starting his A levels(as of yesterday)..My eldest has a B550 am4 setup with a 5800x cpu/3080fe combo I built a few years ago. My yougest I built a pc for him as he starts computer science a levels...his machine was actually cheaper as used some 2nd hand parts, but also more potential as a b650/7800x3d machine with a 7800Xt gpu (gpu on a par for raster with 3080 roughly, looses out to dlss as only fsr3, but does have 16gb vram)...cpu for gaming wipes the floor with the 5800x
my eldest isn't jealous that basically my youngest has a better gaming rig than he does...he realises pc's improve over time and that for a few years he had a rig when his brother didn't. He does now want to upgrade his pc for his b'day/xmas which is fine..i picked up a 2nd hand 7800x3d for him a month or so back and will prob go for a b850 tomahawk(available £193 if you look), with some 32gg 6000c30 rgb ram(has to be rgb for my kids..ad me for that matter..after having years of nothing, I enjoy the rgb)
as side note my sister doesn't have kids so spends money on mine instead...They're her only 2 nephews, so she got my eldest a scuba diving course for his open padi/open water padi etc last present...she wants to do something similar for yougest now he's getting old enough, but he's happy to wait till he finds something he wants to do

my jist is don't worry too much of getting everything perfectly the same. At the end of the day, theses are presents and hopefully your niece/nephew realise this and also realise if presents come at different times then in the case of pc's, if money is roughly the same, performance might change as time has gone by. hopefully they understand this, and also means they get to look forward to future upgrades/presents (if they still enjoy gaming in the future)..my sister lets me do the pc stuff, she likes doing the outdoor stuff to counterbalance it  ...which is fine...gave me an excuse to dive with my son, and get my dry suit certificate at the same time (never dived in uk before...it's chilly)

While this make sense in terms of upgradability you said that you wanted to have bot nephew and niece the same computer almost. Secondly you can utilise some of your existing memory therefore a cheaper upgrade plus if there are on the same platform you can easily cross troubleshoot.
