New build freezing

Hi guys, my partners younger brother has just built his first PC and it keeps freezing, it simply locks up and is non responsive but the screen still shows what it froze on and all fans and peripherals etc still on. This freeze can happen anywhere from in boot to 30 mins of game play

I've reinstalled windows and only installed core drivers, I've also tried heavily underclocking the RAM and cpu and it started to last longer. When on optimised defaults it constantly freezes

Components:
8 gb crucial ballistix sport 1600mhz
amd fx6300 3.5ghz 6 core
Gigabyte ga-970a ud3p
Sapphire Radeon r9 270x 2gb
500w evga psu 80plus
1tb barracuda
Windows 7 (legit)
Bitfenix case

Amy advice would be much appreciated

Is XMP enabled for the RAM?
Have you tried just a single stick?

Xmp is disabled and yes to the single stick and in different slots

It has now decided to not boot into windows and reboots or freezes after the pulsating hologram

Enable the XMP profile, they're the recommended settings for the RAM.
Might need a touch more voltage, is XMP 1.65v or 1.5v?

I've enabled 'profile1' as that was the only option other than disabled in the drop down and it's currently 1.5

Ran the Ram at 1.65 and it is working fine, thanks
