Hi all,

I've bought parts for a new build but want to use my existing ssd and put a fresh install of windows on it.

Whats the best way of doing this? i cant seem to find the right place in the microsoft website that explains how to do it.

Thanks

Backup all data that you want to keep from ssd onto an external drive then install windows on ssd by booting from installation media :)

Replace all data from external to ssd if required :)

Activates even without logging in...your laptop will have a digital signature with Microsoft so they know its the same machine as before...if major hardware change then you may have to use activation via the ms account though...only happened to me once with a customer pc.

couldnt activate as they have said cause i upgraded via the free upgrade from 8.1 to 10 it was assigned to that pc.

gotta try and call somebody tomorrow to see if i can activate on the new PC with my existing license or i'll need to purchase a new one

Defo back up ur data....I did a reinstall a couple of days ago and didn't realise I was installing the new 1803 update....it's appalling, buggy as hell, 48 hours later got most of it working again but not as good as previous version

Was your windows 8 a retail copy or oem?

Log into your Microsoft account online and select devices, remove the old device, then try and activate again, you may have to select "I have recently changed my hardware" I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10, doesn't matter if its the RAM, CPU or Motherboard, I always have this problem, always solved by just removing old device from my m$ account.

Got it reactivated just now.

Had to do a live chat with somebody but they said from my error code they would do it and they sent me a reactivation code.
