Hi all. I've decided it's time to replace my six year old i7-4790K desktop - which OCUK built for me back in 2014. It's still running good as gold, but I just feel it's time for an upgrade. I've seen two other similar threads but thought I'd start my own so as not to hijack another.

I'm thinking about not being lazy and building it myself this time. So far I've come up with these parts but would welcome any helpful suggestions and comments - particularly on the motherboard and m.2 SSDs because I'm not really familiar with choosing those parts.

If it helps to know this - I picked the CPU fan and case mainly because I want to keep the noise levels down while still having good cooling. The mobo is new so finding out if the CPU fan will interfere with the RAM is tricky. But the BeQuiet website does say the Dark Rock 4 fan will limit the usability of the RAM slots on the ASUS B450F mobo. So I'm thinking another cooler might be appropriate as the layout of the two boards looks pretty similar.

On the M.2 drives - I know the mobo has one PCIE 4.0 slot, so is it worth picking one PCIE 4.0 SSD? The plan is to use the 250GB drive for the OS and the 1TB drive for games.

Thanks - I'll definitely have a look at some more PSUs (stock permitting).

I should have mentioned I'll be recycling an optical drive into the new build as I have quite a few imported Blu-rays I can only play via my PC. So that's a 'must have'. :)

I don't have a gaming monitor yet - the current monitor is a Lenovo ThinkVision P27 which I got from work.
 
Thanks for the monitor suggestions. I've made a few more tweaks to the case and CPU cooler. And I'll probably go for the B550 AORUS PRO mobo suggested by orbitalwash (assuming it comes into stock soon).

Hopefully I can get building soon. There's talk of a possible VAT cut coming which might offset some of the changes I've made.:D

I did intend to keep the current monitor until at least the end of the year - mainly because it's from work and I've no idea when I'll even go back to the office to return it right now (but October at the earliest!).
 
OK - I think I'm sold on not wasting money on the 3900x. I did know that was overkill, so am happy to swap that out. :)

So here's where I am now...

I've kept the two 8TB HDDs - I have almost 8TB of data on my current desktop I'll need to transfer over, and always seem to need more space. I stuck to the 2070 super too, given the extra price of the 2080 doesn't seem to translate to much of a performance gain.

Ah ok, thanks. I'll probably stick to 3600/3800 then.
 
Thanks again for all the help on this. With the Ryzen 4700G out so soon, I'll probably hold off for another month and see if I want to switch a few things around again.
