infornt of my PC
I am looking at a new build PC.

At the moment I have a 480 GTX SE. Its good but runs quite hot and power hungry at 250W. Is there anything in the £200-£250 bracket that performs just as well but eats less power? I have to say this card is great at higher resolutions and AA.

I am planning on upgrading my 24" monitor to a 27" or 29".

I'm guessing a 660 or 7870 would be of similar performance to the 480. Both fall below your price bracket and are considerably quieter and more power efficient.

What res monitor are you planning on going to? Whilst the 480 is fine at 1080p, mine struggles a little on my new u2713hm at 1440p. I'll be looking to upgrade it when the new 770/780 cards are released at the end of the month.

With £200 - £250 to spend, I'd be looking at a 7950 though.

hd 7950 should be less power hungry and ~14% faster at stock, probably more overclocked. that said maybe you could wait a few weeks and see what the gtx 700 series brings

I didnt know there is a gtx 700 series coming. Probably going for a Dell or Samsung monitor.

What res though? 1080p? 1440p? Makes a fair difference to the demands on the GPU.

1440p has 75% more pixels for the GPU to deal with (3.7m compared to 2.1m).

As high as I can get it. 2560 x 1440 on a 27" or 2560 x 1600 on a 30"

If £250 is under budgeted, what do you recommend? I don't want to spend more than I need to as I have the rest of the PC to buy.
