Hi Guys , my first post here :)

Also my first self build , heres what ive chosen so far

1 - 1) *OVERCLOCKED* Intel Core i5 750 2.66Ghz @ 4.00GHz / Gigabyte GA-P55-UD5 Intel P55 Motherboard / Corsair XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) PC3-12800C9 1600MHz DDR3 Bundle

2-Corsair TX 650W ATX SLi Compliant Power Supply

3-Coolermaster HAF 922 Case with Window - Black

I already have a Pioneer BDC-202 bluray drive (ive read there can be issues with certain motherboards is the one ive chosen ok ?)
I also have hard drives .

The one part im not sure about is the graphics card , im not a gamer but I do a lot of bluray ripping so would like to be able to view these . Any ideas please .

Thanks

No need to go stupid and buy a ATI 5xxx series or Nvidia 295 then.

Reading recently, that for normal video/bluray watching, encoding and similiar stuff any good, mid range card on the market should suffice

ATI - 4870 +

Nvidia - 9800 +

Encoding/ripping is down to CPU and not GPU and that i5 you have is suited to that well enough

actruly rather than old gen tech, I would have the HD5770 as it takes almost nothing when doing nothing. if your going to spec things like 9800 and HD4870s which are very capable cards, might as well throw in a bit money £££ for a next gen GPU like the HD5770

It's a bit like buying the wife/girlfriend/boyfreind? a Bugatti Veyron to go do the weekly shopping in just incase the milk goes off on the way home! When a decent Ford Fiesta will do the job just as well!!!

Lol .... tongue in cheek ... but it's true

You've quoted this before, however stated it for the I7 where it was not mentioned. Care to elaborate on why tri channel is more suited?

Personally i would go for something on the lines of 5770, but solely for the directx 11 support. Not a bad price however if your looking to save money a second hand 4890 would be brilliant.

Thanks for all the advice guys :) Ive been offered a one week old one of these for £115 will this do the job ? http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-132-OK

I wouldn't bother to be honest. You could pick a 260 up second hand for about £70 and even then it's more than you should be spending. There is no need for more than a basic graphics card if you do not intend to play games. The 4650 I posted is more than adequate.

tri channel is for the i series

Wrong.

Socket 1156 Core i7, i5 and i3 CPUs do not have a tri-channel memory controller, and therefore cannot run memory in triple-channel mode. They require dual-channel DDR3.

Socket 1366 Core i7 CPUs do have a tri-channel memory controller and as such can run memory in triple-channel mode.

Thats what i needed, thanks.

If you don't intend to game installer09, don't spend more then 40-50 on a gfx card as i don't believe they will be of any benefit to ureself.

Please stop posting useless, inaccurate information, it may mislead someone and end up with them purchasing the wrong hardware, read up on what RAM goes with what CPUs; P55, H55 and H57 chipsets only use Dual-Channel DDR3 RAM because there is no controller for a Triple-Channel Setup, whereas the X58 chipset does have a Triple-Channel Controller.

As previously mentioned there is no need to blow a lot of money on a graphics card as most availabe on here would do what you require. However I believe the ATI HD5770 would be a worthwhile investment for if you ever do play games it will cope very well, it consumes a considerably lower amount of power and is also a lot quieter than most GPUs.
