Hi Everyone,

looking for some guidance. I want my first ever PC build but I have no clue over what works together. I have picked parts for aesthetics as per below but wondered if people could give guidance on Motherboard, RAM etc. I understand new CPU's/Motherboards have just been launched so looking for something that is future proof and will be upgradeable in future. Looking to buy some parts now and then the GPU in Jan once new 5000 Series launch

Do you have an overall budget? If your budget is limited then things like your AIO choice will have an impact on what else you can buy and it may be worth lowering the cost with an alternative to make performance gains elsewhere.

Main use is gaming and just general internet surfing. No monitor etc is needed. I was going to order all kit now and then order GPU once they release in Jan/Feb. My aim is for 5070/5070 ti

no point buying parts in piecemeal as you won't be able to use them and the clock starts for the warranty period once they're bought
the only time i'd consider this, is when there are bargains to be had for individual components...but there isn't currently

tl;dr just wait until you're in a position to buy the whole rig, then come back to ask for recommendations

So I've put together the below but there are several caveats
  • I don't know if the PSU will be enough - it's there as a cost placeholder but nobody knows how much wattage the RTX 50 series will need. You may need a 1000watt PSU.
  • If you want RGB RAM, that's fine, just get any kit of RAM that runs at 6000CL30.
  • You don't need PCi-e 5.0.
  • I much prefer the SN850X over most other SSDs as it's very fast and actually not that much more than midrange SSDs.

2k will be including the GPU but can push little more as the GPU costs are bit finger in air at moment :)
So I'm guessing the GPU will be in the region of £750 so I'm going to work on a budget of £1250.

The 9800x3d is ideally what you should be aiming for but that's £500 .

Here's my take .

perfect thanks for this guidance. My friend is going to lend me a 4070 until the new GPU's come out so I can build now and actually do some gaming :). Does this build look ok then? Is the 140mm fan I have added suitable for the rear of the case?

Yes is a solid build .

The aio cooler is a bit over the top but if you like it then why not but don't think you need a reverse airflow fan especially at that price. Could save £120 if you switch to my case and cooler for example.

Appreciate the help on this. I like the Lian Li case but just personal preference. The AIO cooler where could I save on this? Would any other Lian Li AIO coolers fit?

Most aio coolers will fit but Arctic freezer have thicker radiators so clearance issues can arise . Best to check the coolers out yourself to see what you like but dropping to a 240mm will make things cheaper .

If you really like it then get it but it's on pre order and so is the 9800x3d.

Thanks for guidance. I dont mind waiting. It will be like a late Xmas present :)
Let's us know how you get on or any advice you may need.

Couple of things to note is that on first boot on AM5 it can take up to 15mins for anything to show on screen and may reboot a few times as the motherboard is training the memory, so be patient.

The motherboard may need a bios update for the 9800x3d to work this can be done with bios flashback feature on the motherboard . I would look into how to do this to prepare yourself if needed. It's worth updating the bios regardless as there are usually optimisation.

Enjoy.
