Whats the longest GPU people have managed to squeeze into the Corsair 250D or Carbide Air 240?

I have my eyes on the Gigabyte GTX980 G1 Gaming card but am keen to put it into a compact case.

Expected parts for my build:

M-ITX Case - either the Corsair 250D or Carbide Air 240 or <????>

Asus Impact VII m-itx mobo
i7 4790k
h100i
16gb Avexir Blitz 1.1 Red+white
Superflower 850w PSU white
Crucial m500 480Gb m.2 SSD (cut down on cable clutter)
no ODD
Gigabyte GTX980 G1 Gaming GPU (if it fits!)

I'd welcome any input on other case suggestions, though I'd prefer more discrete offerings than the gimmicky gaming type cases. I'm expecting to end up with a red, black and white themed build. I'm also not a fan of the Prodigy sized m-itx cases as to me It defeats the object of the m-itx format. That said I'm still sorely tempted to ATX and go for the NZXT H440 as it looks very sleek!

Also on a slightly conflicting note (as I recognise I'd need a Asus Gene or ATX mobo) would the 850w superflower PSU be man enough for GTX980 G1 in SLI in case I decide to go at a later date?

To expel more heat from the enclosure? Was hoping to fit aftermarket case fans to do that. Do the reference designs have coil whine issues or is that mostly down to PSU quality?

yes, due to constrained spaces, coolers that exhaust heat into the case (like most aftermarket coolers) don't perform as well (cooling-wise) compared to benchmarks
and also if you wanna sli, blower fans are more efficient.

all cards have coil whine, even the giga g1 gaming...just luck of the draw really.
