Hi guys, I'm looking to build a new pc (almost)from scratch. There are a couple of components from my current build that I will carry over to the new one to save some cash.
First off, I'll tell you what sort of machine I want to build. Since I use my pc mainly for gaming and using 3d applications such as 3ds max and a variety of gaming engines, it needs some power under the hood.
Budget
I haven't really settled on a budget, but I'll just say that I don't want to go crazy spending thousands on bleeding edge stuff, when I could get some high end stuff for a fraction of the price.
What do I have now?
Like I mentioned before I'm going to carry over a few components from my current build, here they are:
GPU: MSI HAWK 7870 - Got this card a few months ago and it's pretty good. Don't really see a reason to get a new one at the moment since this handles games quite well and its my CPU that's bottle necking the machine at the moment.
Hard-Drives: 2x500GB 7200rpm - If I can get away with keeping all my files and transferring them over to the new machine, great. I don't really feel like formatting, but I do plan on getting another HDD, maybe 1/2TB for games and movies.
CPU Cooler: Corsair H60 - This may not be the best water cooler and the H100 is probably a better choice since the case I'm looking at supports a dual radiator, but I think it's an adequate cooler since I'm not looking to overclock too much.
Okay, so now that's out of the way I can talk about what sort of components I've been looking at. I've been using the overclockers store to pick my parts so I'll link to them as well in case you want more detailed info.
CPU: i7-3770k 3.50GHz - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-403-IN - I've been looking to upgrade to an i7 for a while since I'm currently on a first gen i5, which isn't too bad but I can feel it falling off. This i7 has a good clock speed and since its unlocked I can OC it if needed.
MotherBoard: ASRock Z77 Fatality - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-094-AK&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=2261 - This board seems to fit with the other components I'm looking at, don't really have much to say :3
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 Dual Channel - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-313-CS&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=1517 - RAM is RAM, and I need a fair bit, 16GB is a little overkill I know, but you'd be surprised how quick you fill up RAM with certain 3d applications.
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200rpm - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-257-SE - Like I mentioned before, I need a little more space and this seems to fit my build, bringing my machine upto 2TB storage total.
PSU: Corsair Professional HX+ 750W Gold - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-096-CS&groupid=701&catid=123&subcat=1084 - I have a 650w PSU currently but I want to upgrade to something with cleaner power, and 750w is more than enough even if I decide to go crazy later down the line.
Case: Corsair Vengeance C70 Case - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-066-CS - Had my eye on this one for a while now, I like the design, it has good cable management and I'm fairly sure it's big enough for my 7870. Someone please tell me if this case won't fit something because i'd hate to find that out whilst building in it.
Phew, that's probably a lot of text to read, sorry :3 But I want to be thorough and make it clear what I need. This is only a first revision and I haven't even worked out the price yet, this is just an idea of what I need. I'm happy to change every single component here if you guys can tell me about something better or more cost effective.
Also you may have noticed there's a lot of Corsair parts in there, I'm not looking to make a full Corsair build or anything, it's just that my past experience with their parts has been positive.
If you read it all thanks and I look forward to hearing from you
