New Build - Help me out.

oh SSD's, sounds interesting..

I had a quick look on the net in an attempt to educate myself but anyone got a dummy's guide on the benefits / way to go about it?

Sorry to hijack thread.

unlike HDD's, which use mechanical disc's to store data, spinning at very fast rates creating noise, heat etc, SSD use i think flash memory.

these have no moving parts so 1)are very fast, increasing load times of programs, OS, games etc 2) produce little heat 3) are smaller in size

only down fall are they are quite dear and have relatively small capacity

The SSDs can access data almost instantly (a few orders of magnitude faster than HDDs). That's mostly where their speed comes from. A HDD has to go look for it mechanically, which is comparatively slow.

Another recommended SSD is the Samsung 830 (notebook or desktop version, they are the same). It also comes with some decent extra software.

I have two M4 and can recommend them heartily. You will most likely have to flash its BIOS to 000F or better, which is trivial to do.

- When you install Windows for the first time, turn the SATA mode to AHCI in the BIOS, and unplug your hard drive data cable (PSU power off). That way windows will install everything on the SSD.

Apart from the AHCI mode, nowadays, you don't have to worry about SSDs. They are just plug and play.

Ok looking at that motherboard again I dont think I can bare to look at the bright baby blue in a new build so i was thinking about the likes of this?

You have two 400R's :)

okey I suppose. But if you want to do it properly, you'll need a CPU cooler.

And you have a micro-atx motherboard.

If you want a black board, the Z77X-UD3H is also good.

The 300R is also a good case.

Shh you lie :p

Yeah forgot to add the CPU cooler.

Only Ok?

Can't complain about mobo. SSD would be my choice. I have the Z68 version and it's been great. With that memory as well.

If you add the cooler, can get the OEM CPU.

And I have the 500R, which imo is a better case. I paid a lil over £80 for the 500R a few months ago. :/ Prices are all up up up.

Ok so if I get the CPU Fan suggested earlier then drop to the OEM CPU I can then get the 500r.

Sound good. CPU Fan good? I am now going to sound like a 12 year old kid but any suggestions on a better looking CPU fan.

I am 21 I promise. :p

Dark Rock Advanced? BeQuiet ShadowRock Pro? It's got a cool fan. Thermalright True Black, Prolimatech Armageddon, ... All rather more expensive.

Z77X-UD3H with free Boogie Bug pad?

The dark rock advance is a nice looking one. Seems like some people have issues with the size though. how is the 500r for space?

The Dark Rock 2 is a beast of a cooler. Expensive though.

But tbh, you wouldn't see much of the cooler anyway, unless you modded the side panel to do a window, or if corsair provided one.
