Hi,
i built this in 2011 and its done me well over the time (still working now) but i feel its time to upgrade:

old build
Code:
Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail

OcUK GeForce GTX 570 1280MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

MSI P67A-G45 Intel P67 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard ** B3 REVISION **

Cooler Master HAF 922

Corsair Enthusiast Series TX 650W V2 High Performance '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply (CMPSU-650TXV2UK)

Corsair Vengeance Blue 16GB (4x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz (CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9B)

Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus CPU Cooler (Socket AM2AM2+AM3775115511561366)

Wanting to pretty much upgrade everything but wondered if the ram is still good to use or is it too outdated?
I read now there is DDR4 Ram

If not, is anything on this old build still worth anything so i can sell?

Not sure about what i want on the new build yet but i have around £1000 budget, have a 250GB ssd already purchased. Mainly for gaming (4k not really needed) and multitasking i.e

Thanks

If you upgrade now you'll need DDR4 RAM for the latest Intel and AMD offerings.

Your current PC is still worth a little but you can't access the Members Market sub forum until you hit 1000 posts on here, so you'll need to sell elsewhere :)

I think im best keeping this old one as it is and building a new one from scratch

You would get a significant performance boost just by upgrading your current pc with a new graphics card. Prices are disgraceful at the moment though. Overclock the 2500k if it isn't already as well.

As above - i'm still running a 2500K at 4.4GHz paired with a GTX 1070 and a 1440p DELL. The GPU upgrade was meant to be a temporary upgrade until the initial Ryzen release but i've been so impressed with the performance boost that i'm now waiting for the next round of AMD releases in April'ish. I only play at 60Hz @ 1440p but i can play most games on ULTRA - with only minor tweaks on some if i can be bothered.

But as @pastymuncher mentioned GPU prices are outrageously high at the moment thanks to bitcoin and memory prices - so whatever you decide to do it will be costly. The one advantage of upgrading just the GPU is that you would be able to stick it into any future system (if/when prices drop), plus you would get to see the release of Ryzen 2.

*If you do go down the GPU only route you would need to install/have the latest BIOS for the P67 motherboard to increase the PCI-e compatibility to get it to work.

Thanks for the suggestion
I think i will hold off for now and wait for a GPU deal, and just replace that and see how performance.

Im guessing any top GPU will be compatible with this MOBO then?

Yes, but they're all incredibly overpriced at the moment - to give you a comparison my MSI GTX 1070 cost me £330 in March last year - they're now a sphincter clenching ~£550+. Unfortunately, there's no guarantee when prices will drop so it's a case of sucking up the price of new if you need to upgrade now or shopping around second hand.

Is this any good and worth getting? (GTX 1050ti)
Link deleted

Im a console gamer mostly so dont think i need anything too expensive

This is fairly cheap and should be a good improvement over a GTX570 right?

In a similar situation, but my graphics card sux and even though I am old school, I won't be hitting 1000 posts anytime soon, so no members market ;/

Was about to upgrade but after seeing this, probably worth waiting until April.

Never done this before

Can anyone tell me how to update the bios for my mobo?

MSI P67A-G45 Intel P67 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard ** B3 REVISION **

Thanks

You may have a problem when it comes to that seeing as you have a MSI board. Their boards from Ivybridge (Z77) backwards have a very high chance of bricking the board when updating the bios no matter which method you use. They just seem to be incapable of making a tool that won't brick the board and I can't understand why because no other manufacturer has had these problems. It's one of the reasons that I will never buy a MSI motherboard. We had many threads on here a few years ago relating to bricked boards (P67/Z68/Z77) due to failed bios updates and MSI's own forums are full of tales of woe about bricked boards. The recommended way to flash is to sign up to their forums and gain access to their forums flashing tool but there is still no guarantee that it will flash successfully. I would try the new gpu first to see if it works rather than chancing your luck on a bios flash.

Thanks for the reply

I will look at getting the gpu first, no harm if it doesn't as i plan to get a new mobo eventually.

Gonna try hold off on the gpu for the April releases, could drop the price of current gpu's
