Right, my first post on this excellent forum so be gentle please lol
I thought with windows 7 coming out in oct its time to freshen up my pc,
My current spec is -
abit ul8 mobo
athlon 64 x2 4600+ skt 939
2 gig of ddr400 mem
radeon hd 3650 agp
hiper type r 580w psu
2 optical drives,
2 sata hdd and 1 ide hdd
soundblaster live 5.1
this is the spec i have been thinking about -
gigabyte GA-MA770-UD3 mobo
amd socket am3 cpu ????
750gb to 1tb sata 2 hdd + my exisiting 2 sata hdd
my existing psu
6gb ddr2 1066 mem - already got some corsair xms2 4gb so only need 2 more gb
Radeon hd graphics card ???
my two IDE optical drives
soundcard ???
Now what does everyone think of this spec ?
The pc is usually used for photoshopping, burning dvd's, itunes, net etc but would like to get back into gaming again, not the likes of crysis but maybe unreal tourney and flight sim maybe,
So the question is what CPU and GPU does everyone recomend ? i was originally looking at the Athlon 2 x2 250 cpu but then started looking at the Phenom 2's x4 CPU's maybe the 950 version, obviously if i was to get the 950 then it will do me for a good couple of years and i dont envisage to overclock the system,
Also the graphics card, i know the radeon card are being updated soon hopefully pushing the price of the 4890's down or maybe even the 4870 x2 cards, id love a blu ray drive but they are a tad too expensive still at the moment lol
So CPU,
athlon 2 x2 250 ?
Phenom 2 x2 ?
Phenom 2 x3 ?
or Phenom 2 x4 ?
Soundcards, what does everyone think ? i know the mobo has onboard hd sound but would it be upto the job ?
Im hoping from my ooooold 939 system that the new pc would be a fair bit quicker, it currently takes it about 4 mins to start win XP so im hoping with win 7 and maybe a quad core and faster and a lot more memory it might start up in half the time,
Erm so thats it, id like recomendations or advice on what CPU, Graphics card, Soundcard and also wether 4 gig of mem is enough or if 6 gig is reccomended ?
i will be installing the 64 bit version of windows 7 home premium.
Thanks everyone and sorry for going on for soooo long lol
Matt
P.S. i forgot to add im not going to be buying all the new parts until a couple of weeks before win 7 is released, does anyone envisage the prices of components dropping any in that time ?
