Hey guys!

Time has come to build a new machine, im pretty new to this so sorry if I sound noobish. My budget is around 1.1k and ive come up with 2 builds.

Just a few things:
I will not be overclocking, im too noob to do it lol (although I heard in the first mobo its pretty easy to do)
I have a ATI 5750 which I plan to use untill I get enough money to upgrade it.

2600k build

(Heard a lot of nice things about the maximum, just worried about price lol, have to sacrifice some ram and SSD in order to get it.)

Was thinking of adding a 5750 in and running it in crossfire, however my 5750 is XFX 512mb (thats what it says on the box) and OCuk only have the 1gb one, dont know if they are both compatible with each other

If anyone has any suggestions it would be nice.

Thank you very much

Crossfire is compatible with different size Vrams on different cards.

you are right to think that the only difference is the HT, which is useless for gaming.

you wont need 16GB of ram, cut back to 8GB and get a bigger SSD, 40GB is to small.

Thanks for the fast reply, Yeh I guess I can take of 8gb add in more ssd and a 5750

Do you think i should stick with the sabertooth or buy the maximum mobo

Hey guys!

My budget is around 1.1k...

I have a ATI 5750 which I plan to use untill I get enough money to upgrade it.

does not compute

1.1k can get you an immense machine that will take anything you throw at it:

i assume its going to be a gaming PC, since you said your not going to be doing video encoding or anything like that very much, so ive used the 2500k, as the 2600k gives no advantage in that respect.

also, ive only included 4GB of ram because no games on the market today can use all of the 4GB, let alone the 16GB you've included

YOUR BASKET
2 x MSI ATI Radeon HD 6950 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £199.99
1 x Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - OEM £161.99
1 x Gigabyte P67A-UD4-B3 Intel P67 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard - (Sandybridge) ** B3 REVISION ** £149.99

1 x XFX 750W Black Edition Modular Power Supply £92.99
1 x Corsair Hydro H50-1 High-Performance CPU Watercooler (Socket LGA775/1155/1156/1366/AM2/AM3) £54.98
1 x OCZ Platinum 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Ultra Low Voltage Dual Channel Kit (OCZ3P1600C9ELV4GK) £36.98

please check with someone else that knows more about this if the PSU will be fine with that card. im 95% sure it will be fine, but i'd rather be safe than sorry.

when the computer is showing its age, and the framerates are dropping, buy another 2GB 6950 and put it in crossfire. also, crucially, get a bigger power supply such as this one. i would have included it in the build to start with, but it took it over budget.
(this is what i took off to get the SSD in there within budget)

one 6950 will be more than enough for now. heres a benchmark of how this card performs on the major graphics card killers:
top: standard 6950
bottom: 'flashed' 6950 ('flashing' turns a 6950 into a 6970)

Thanks for the input, i think ill go for your build reaper think i can dish out a little extra for a bigger PSU, Thank you
Now the long wait till Tuesday!

Hey umm, I just robbed a bank and got some more money! soo..i thought ill upgrade graphics, was thinking either

Asus GeForce GTX 580 = £407.99
Or
2 x MSI ATI Radeon HD 6950 = £400, £199.99 ea

and would 750w psu be enough for this?

thanks a lot guys..really appreciate the help.

EDIT: just compared the benchmark on the wonderful site reaper put up
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Prod...5.216.218.219.228.232.233.231.229.230.234.235

according to that, the ATI in CF gets a little louder and hotter. Dont think its gonna be a major problem, but seems like getting 2 6950's would probably be better for gaming, for same price as a GTX580.
