Hi all,

I’m sorry if you are all fed up of these posts then I apologise now.

Starting off, I’m in two minds whether this is the right time to post this sort of post or wait until CES19 has passed. Anyway here it is.

I’m wanting to build a new build, around the CORSAIR 500d RGB case, I have all peripherals and OS.

My budget is 3k, wanting to game at 1440p at 144hz. Monitor is G-Sync. So am Nvidia card.

I’m open to AMD but always been an Intel person.

Memory I know I want is CORSAIR Vengeance RGB at 3200mhz 16GB. Only thing I don’t understand is if I want to go quad channel am I need a 32GB chunk of memory or can I buy the extra 2x8GB slices later down the line?

Build colour preferably black and RGB mad. I know it’s not everyone’s taste but I have my study set up to be dark and therefore a bit of colour and chance to change it every now and then helps keep me interested in the build.

320mm radiator for the front and Corsair so I’m happy with adding that bit to it.

Massive thanks in advance.

Alex.

EDIT

I already have a 250GB OS SSD and a 1TB SSD for game storage so internal memory isn’t an issue either guys.

@Parkinson1NX

replace the 360 aio fans with RGB case fans. mount the GPU AIO 240 at the top , or vise versa - get extra 3 fans if CPU aio going up top

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £2,656.05 (includes shipping: £11.10)

RTX 2080 Ti comes with 4 year warranty .

or could go non AIO which is £1300 and looks like this

you'd be moving from 6 core 12 thread x99 to 8 core 16 thread z390 that should hold 5ghz all core overclock! 5.2ghz if you have a good chip

if you wanted to for extra £40- could push Z390 Master which is slightly better audio , one of the BEST VRM mobo's out there and more RGB

Thanks dude. Going to turn PC on now and have a look in detail.

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/giga...cket-1151-ddr4-atx-motherboard-mb-576-gi.html is this the mobo @orbitalwalsh

That's the bad boy !

Shame as the other day they were doing a bundle , Master + 9900k+ Aorus RGB ram and free 512GB SSD for £950 odd proved very popular .
Unless you spend £500+ hard to beat the boards design .

Aorus ram is Samsung B-Die as well and includes dummy sticks

Shame about missing the bundle man. :(

How does this look dude? Tempted to drop the rad 2080Ti and go for the other one, looks dammmm nice.

Maybe some better cooling paste as well.

Would be an animal !
Should hit 5ghz all cores easily , hopefully be able to push 5.2ghz .
Worth getting for NON Metal Thermal Grizzly paste for £5 :)
Not a huge fan of Corsair asetek coolers , but is latest gen and matches with the build .
Ram is also a lot slimmer then Corsair ones so should have mounting issues with AIO at top

I really do appreciate the help.

I'll have to try and remember how to put a computer together now :L

Your current one is still a good system. 9900k would have been the only logical choice if you were going g to upgrade for increased core count and speed !

Yeah I still get on great with it, just wanting a little more grunt and give myself 2/3 years of proofing. Will be passing my build onto the parent so she can enjoy a PC system instead of an Xbox.

That's good then !
Extra 2 cores should help it last and extra core speed justifies the spend over current as well .

Save cash you could go 9700k 8 core without hyper threading as technically it's only Bout 15% less powerful , unless your doing workloads on it ?

I meant partner the only thing it’ll be used for is gaming, 1440p @ 144hz and potentially a widescreen in the future but for now a 27” monitor.

Get family to build it ;)

Nice to get this through the post, case here tomorrow. :D MOBO weighs a ton.

Lots of copper and the full backplate

Quick question @orbitalwalsh for storage I’m thinking of doing away with my 1TB & 250gb SSDs and keeping my current build together. Thinking of a 250gb M.2 for OS and a 500gb M.2 for game storage. I’ve never come close to filling my 1TB.

Never had an M.2 ssd before, 970 Evo is what I’m looking at. Would they be good replacements or safer to go for the 2.5” SSDs?

Thanks in advance.

(EDIT)

Would fitting 2x M.2s onto the MOBO cause an issue with GPU fitment? I’ve not looked at the board in great depth but looks like the M.2 covers are hinged so possible covering the M.2?

M.2 nvme would be nice for an OS , but for games I'd stick with your larger 1TB SSD instead of smaller nvme . Wouldn't see any difference for gaming

Thanks man, that’s that sorted then. It’s my first attempt on building a system without anyone there to help (me watching) so looking forward to it. Want good cable management as well. Been looking at the braided cable kits you can get for the Corsair series so possibly going for one of them.
