Hello good folk of world OC.
I have an issue with a new build I have recently completed which I would appreciate some advice with if anyone can help? Upon startup I get the following message on a black screen.

“The ME FW of system was found abnormal.
It is recommended to re-install system BIOS by M-Flash to ensure normal system operation.
Press F1 to Run Setup
Press F2 to continue.”

Now then, this happen most often but not all of the time and sometimes hangs on a blank black screen for 30 seconds prior to this message.
F1 goes to BIOS,
F2 loads straight into windows and normal service resumes.

Having spent £400 I would really like my new rig to boot straight into windows when I turn it on, is this too much to ask or am I being unreasonable…..?

Here is what I have done already;
(no overclocking yet what-so-ever)

Updated BIOS to latest version (several times)
Fresh install of windows 10 from ISO,
Updated all drivers from MSI website.
Un-installed the Intel Management Engine driver
Re-installed the Intel Management Engine driver
Reset BIOS via reset CMOS button.

If anyone can suggest a fix for this I would be most grateful. Here is some hardware spec;
MSI
Z170A-G43 Plus Intel Z170 (Socket 1151) DDR4 ATX Motherboard.

Intel
Core i5-6600 3.30GHz (Skylake) Socket LGA1151 Processor - Retail.

MSI

Kingston (C drive)
HyperX Fury 120GB 2.5" SATA 6Gbps Solid State Drive.

OS
Windows 10 Pro x64
.

BIOS Time/date/load setup correctly think but i have just noticed a setting in advanced BIOS for Windows OS configuration;
Windows 8.1/10 WHQL Support > disabled
Windows 7 Instillation > enabled
As I have windows 10 installed I swapped them and rebooted.

Got 3 long beeps from the mobo on reboot and black screen with message;
"There is no GOP support detected in this card. Windows 8.1/10 feature settings in BIOS will be changed to Dissabled.

Restart and we are back to original BIOS settings.

Is this a problem with the card/driver and will it be the cause of my original error message? I have the latest Nvidia driver installed so any ideas????.....?

I don't think its related to your original error, that message about GOP is because you have an old graphics card which does not have a UEFI GOP vBIOS so you will not be able to enable the 8.1/10 WHQL option.

Are you able to run it with the on board graphics for a couple of days to see if its not liking your VGA card?

You are on BIOS 3.4 right?

OK so i have removed and uninstalled the VGA Card and its drivers.
Selected IGD from BIOS and installed the intell drivers. Displays working as they should.

Selected the "Windows 8.1/10 WHQL Support" in BIOS and it will not boot into windows, just goes straight back to BIOS screen.

I figure there is now an issue with the SSD format or something? Only drives with 'U' show when Windows 8.1/10 WHQL Support is enabled.
Disable it and windows boot up.

On the positives side there has been no “The ME FW of system was found abnormal" since removing the VGA Card......
Thanks for your help.
Any ideas regarding the Windows 8.1/10 WHQL Support please?;)

You need to install Windows with the BIOS set like that so it gets installed in UEFI mode.

OH, ok thanks. So will i have to re-install windows having first set the BIOS/UEFI to Windows 8.1/10 WHQL Support > enabled or can it be done from within windows?

It might be worth a mention that currently in device priority i have both 'U' & non 'U' devices showing. I dont know if this is just what is compatible or if something is incompatible. I will post a screen grab of my BIOS when i get home.

Thanks for your help

OK so i think i figured this out. The second time i installed windows it seems to have formatted and installed in Legacy mode not UEFI/GPT.
It depends on which format setting you select during the win10 install stage as to the mode used. GPT = UEFI mode and should create 4 partitions prior to installing windows.

I hope this helps someone and saves them the time I have wasted.......;)

The saga continues……..
I am still getting the dreaded BIOS crash screen;
“The ME FW of system was found abnormal.
It is recommended to re-install system BIOS by M-Flash to ensure normal system operation.
Press F1 to Run Setup
Press F2 to continue.”
I have stripped the machine back to bare minimum (PSU, MOBO, PCU, Memory, OS SSD) and am using on board graphics. Flashed the latest BIOS using MFlash and set the bios to Window10-Enabled Windows7 Disabled.
The machine regularly hangs upon powerup (before MSI UEFI splash screen just a blank black screen for 30 seconds) and then either boots up as expected OR throwsup the error “The ME FW of system was found abnormal.”
If I press F2 the BIOS reverts to windows 7 Mode and runs like a bag of ****.
If I press power button it shuts down and boots fine upon restart.
I’m at the end of my patients with this issue and after wasting hours of my life will have to concede and contact customer support to admit defeat. Boooooo:mad:

ME FW is Intel Management engine firmware. I guess it's possible the board had the wrong version on it. Find the latest version for the 100 series chipset and flash it inside windows from your C drives root. To get windows to boot in UEFI mode you to need format your disk as GPT and make sure legacy support is enabled in the bios for your Gpu.
