So I have put everything together for my first pc build, I don't have any OS yet but is there anyway to check if I have done everything right?
The one thing I have noticed is when I connect the fan on the CPU cooler to my fan controller it comes up with "CPU fan error". Also I connected the little LED pins and HDD LED but there are no lights on the front of the case, like round the power button. Should there be?

What hardware do you have mate?

When you hit the power switch on your PSU the lights should light up on the motherboard if you are getting power to the motherboard etc. Are you getting this?

Asus m4a88td-m evo/usb 3
corsair cmx3
amd phenom II x2 555
samsung f3 500gb
thermalright true black 120
coolermaster silet pro modular 500W

And yes I have a green light on the mobo, however a red light comes on by the RAM but then goes off

try reversing the little pin connections in case the polarity isnt right, not sure what case you have, but normally there is a power on light and HDD activity light.

just pull the connections out and turn them around?

I have and it makes no difference

Are you sure the positive and negative power switch connectors are in the correct positions?? As stulid is getting at I think.

Take a look at the power switch lead plug - it should have a tiny arrow on the non-written side. The arrow means positive. Check the manual against this and you should be fine.

Generally though the writting should be on the outside:

Sorry stulid I didn't really get what ya meant, and needed the picture :o
Cheers for the help mishima, i got the LED's

Now is there anyway for me to check if everything is fine without installing an OS?

Well you should get power to devices - hit the power button and the fans should spin and you should see the machine POST.

Yep all the fans power up and I can get to the bios, if i don't touch anything it says cpu fan error and then goes to a screen which tells me to select a proper boot device and then restart.

Is the 3-pin fan connector plugged into the CPU-fan header on the motherboard?

Sounds to me like one of the HDD may not be plugged in properly. Can you see the HDD within the BIOS? If you can't - check the SATA cable and power cable are both connected to the HDD.

If there isn't an OS on the drive this could be causing the error. There is nothing to boot from etc.

No it's not as I want it on the fan controller.

Yes the HDD has been detected which makes me think it's just because i don't have an OS. I'll leave it for now and report back when I get an OS.

Okay so Iv'e installed windows but I've got a little bit of a problem. I bought the AMD phenom II x2 I used my mobo to unlock the other cores and it did it successfuly so it registered as an x4. But, I used the automatic overclocking features and it recons it got the CPU to 3.7ghz from 3.2 but using CPU-Z things don't look right

also I don't think the RAM looks right
