Hi, the last PC I built was about 10 years ago and I came here for advice and that turned out brilliantly.

It's time for an upgrade but I haven't really been keeping an eye on the market and would like some advice/suggestions on the build. I want it to be a quiet gaming pc, it will be able to play current games with good graphics/performance, but also double up as a HTPC and play 4k video files, and it won't become obsolete for a few years. I have an asus wireless adapter that i'll take from my existing setup.

Aesthetically, I'd prefer to keep it simple, dark/black, no lights etc.

The budget will be around £1800/~$2000. Thanks in advance!

Since you have waited this long if l were you l would wait for Zen 4 which will get released in mid-September and Raptorlake from Intel which should launch a bit later.

A suggestion for your budget:

Kingston Fury Beast 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 PC4-28800C18 3600MHz Dual Channel Kit - £139.99
MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk (AMD AM4) B550 ATX Motherboard - £149.99
AMD Ryzen 9 5900X Twelve Core 4.8GHz (Socket AM4) Processor - Retail - £349.99
Sapphire Radeon RX 6800 Pulse 16GB GDDR6 PCI-Express Graphics Card - £578.99
AMD RAISE THE GAME - Up To 3 Games with RX 6000 Series Graphics Cards - £0.00

WD Black SN850 1TB SSD M.2 2280 NVME PCI-E Gen4 Solid State Drive (WDS100T1X0E) - £129.95
WD Blue SN570 2TB SSD NVME M.2 2280 PCIe Gen3 Solid State Drive (WDS200T3B0C) - £159.95

Phanteks AMP 850W 80 Plus Gold Modular Power Supply - £114.95
Lian Li Lancool 205 Midi-Tower Case - Black Window - £64.99
Arctic Liquid Freezer II High Performance CPU Water Cooler - 240mm - £79.99

Grand Total: £1,781.99

For the HTPC purposes you might be better off with an Intel system and an IGP with quicksync, but idk exactly what you're planning to do with it.

This is great, thanks Tetras. I'll have a look into the suggestions made by theforce but this is exactly what i was looking for. I don't have any particular demand from the HTPC side, just the ability to play 4k video files and it not be overly noisy. Thanks again

If you are in no rush then new CPU from AMD and Intel and also new GPU from NV and AMD all coming in the next 6 months. You can easily build a very powerful and quiet PC with current tech and be well within your budget but waiting may be the best thing for now.
