Hi guys, my bro has asked me to build his PC for him and set it up etc. I'd just like some opinions of the fan configuration and the best location for the AIO. The fan choice for the build will be either ...

or the be quiet silent wings 3 as I use in my build.

Fan, size and locations would be great please.

I was thinking 4 x 120mm fans in the front or would 3 140's be better? With the aio in the roof. Here's the part list for the PC...

Fan mount possible locations Front 4x 120mm or 3x 140mm Top 3x 120mm or 3x 140mm Rear 120mm or 140mm Motherboard tray 4x 120mm.

This is a gaming pc, that I want to be quiet and perform.

Thank you!

If he's spending a lot of money on a GPU he may want to wait because Nvidia's 40 series is in the offing (rumoured to be announced next month) as are Ryzen 7000 CPUs (to be announced later this month). ATX 3.0 PSUs should also be available. Alternatively, go for a cheap GPU now in the expectation of replacing it later this year.

And go for 2x 16 GB over 4x 32 GB RAM.

All of the above has already been purchased and is with me apart from the case fans :)

AIO mounted at the top and then it doesnt really matter from a performance viewpoint whether you go for 3x140 or 4x120 in the front, you will have plenty of airflow even with it being kept quiet. Just choose which look you like best and go for that.

Does he want the fans to be RGB , Bequiet do the Ligthwing fans that are rgb whereas the Noctua fans are not. The if you are going RGB then why not use the Corsair ones and pick up some extra of those so they all match.

We don't want rgb fans in the front and just want the best sound/performance. I love the sound of my bequiet silent wing 3's but am tempted by the other 2 options. If I dont like the aio fans I'll replace them too. Do you think we should have any more fans in different locations?

You are free to buy and use any components you like but I am kind of confused with some of the choices. You have already purchased the Corsair AIO , one of the most expensive on the market and then you are going to replace the fans with non RGB fans. Why did you not get an Arctic Liquid cooler II and save £80? Anyway not a problem it will work just fine

Ok lets get this straight , you have the AIO with its 3x120mm. You can just use those and turn the lights off so thats 3 to use. Then the case comes with 3x140mm so why not use those? then you only have space for the roof and back so just get 4x120mm and I would match them with other corsair fans so if he did want to turn on the lights it would be just one set of software.

Build the PC and test it with the fans you already have. If the airflow is good enough then the temps will be fine and no need for extra fans. If you want to add extra fans at a later date then do so but you have everything you actually need so build and see how it looks.

I didn't advise or buy any of the components. The only reason to replace the top fans would be for noise. These will probably stay if they sound ok. Money isn't an issue here. This will probably transform into a full water cooled custom loop similar to mine in the future. I want the best fans available not just the ones we already have.

We will use the icue software for rgb/fan control as its needed for the aio. We also intend to buy a corsair node pro for rgb case lighting.
