Hi all,

I've recently moved to the states and now looking to put together a new PC. At the moment I have the graphics card and sound card which I brought with me so don't need them, but need to build the rest of the system.

So, what parts do you guys recommend? I'm not wanting to spend loads on this... with the dollar being weak I can get more for my money though.

I would like to spend about 400-500 pound on this at the most so about $700-$900 tops

Thanks guys

PC is for gaming generally.

I have a Gainward ATI Radeon 4850 512MB and a xfi xtreme-music

I also have a 250 GB sata HD, so no need for a new HD yet, and have a mouse and monitor.

So, basically I need a PSU (that works in the states), cpu, ram, dvd burner, case, keyboard and some good cooling that doesn't run too loud - my last pc nearly drove me mad with how loud it ran! :o

Thanks for your help guys.

Update:

I've ordered some parts here... please let me know if any of these are no-no's and should be sent back.

  • Cooler Master 750W Real Power Pro
  • HP DVD 1070i 20x SATA
  • WD Cavier 500GB ATA HD 7200/16MB/SATA-3g
  • Thermaltake Armor va8000B Series

yours probs looking at

intel 45nm dual core such as the e8500, asus p5q range ,depending on the features you need and some pc2-8500 ram

Hi guys,

I've put all this kit together, but when switching it on all it doesn't boot. All the fans kick in and such, but no beeps, and no display. just keeps running.

Any ideas what would be causing this??

Thanks, Dave

Would highly recommend a PC Power & Cooling PSU, especially if you're in the States. I picked up my 750W for about $120 IIRC, an absolute bargain!

Anyone know what I need to do with the problem on the pc powering on but not actually booting.

Doesn't beep at all and no display. All the parts are new :S

EDIT:

I've unplugged everything right down to the mobo and cpu with the stock fan. still nothing.... powers on but no more :(

Have you plugged the 4 or 8 pin in for power for the cpu, reset the cmos and tried with only 1 stick of RAM.

What cpu have you got, perhaps you might need a BOS update.

I've got a dual core intel 8400. I'll try the CMOS now thanks

EDIT

I've now got some action. The PC is giving a continuos beep after starting. The book doesn't have the beep codes it in and can't seem to find them on the web, any idea what this beep means?

hey guys,

I got it up and running now, but now got a new problem.

When trying to install vista I'm getting a error about not having the required files. So, from what I read, I needed the SATA drivers. I then selected them and tried to run but again got the error about required files... i'm stumped now, can't see any other solutions to this from my searching :(

Anyone got any ideas for what I can try to get vista to install now? Maybe I need different sata drivers...??

I'm gonna take this board back to the store... i see now what you mean about the chipset!! It BSOD on my XP with a sata DVD drive running with the Sata HDD and now wont let me install vista, piece of crap!
