Hello guys,

I have built 10+ pcs with no issues bar the usual stuff.

This one has me totally stumped but to send the motherboard back

I installed everything looks good powers up fine, can go into bios just fine but when i go to install windows its goes to the purple screen and then goes black, will not go any further. I know the usb is fine as ive loaded numerous pcs with it.
I have tried 3 different harddrives and ram out my working pc, i have checked for any cpu damage and all pins look perfect. Spec is below and any help on this one massively appreciated!

Msi b450 tomohawk
Amd 3600
32gb corsair 3600mhz
Msi 2070 super trio
Corsair 750w tx750m
Corsair h100i cooler

Would post a picture of the screen before the freeze but not sure how to do this on my phone?

Hopefully this works....This is the screen before the purple one, sometines it does this all the way across, sometimes all ok

Have you tried updating the bios?
Always a worthy test if running out of troubleshooting steps.

You could try a simple CMOS reset first if not yet attempted (unplug PSU, press the case power button to deplete all residual power and then remove battery for ~10 minutes)

I have tried 3 different harddrives
If you're using a M.2. drive - did you remove it before trying one of the different drives?

I had a faulty M.2 slot on the same model/brand board that caused similar issues i.e. I could get into the BIOS and i would have partial splash screen images when Windows started to corrupt and eventually BSOD - proved very annoying to pinpoint.

Do you have any spare parts to changelike the gpu, or try it in the other slot on your motherboard.

Have you tried to boot into safe mode.

Thanks for the replies guys,

Yes, done the CMOS reset.

I have tried 2 different SSD's and even the mechanical drive going into this PC.

Changed the ram from My working PC into it. Tried 1 stick of ram.

GPU i havent changed, only spare ones i have are AMD, but could if needed, not sure why that would cause a boot issue though.

It wont boot / doesnt have windows on to boot into safe mode?

Just to clarify - no drive in the m.2. slot when testing these drives?

You need to eliminate everything - and I've had a SATA cable cripple a system before and it wasn't an obvious symptom.

As @mickyflinn alluded to - not necessary the card you're trying to diagnose (but could be the fault) - more a process of eliminating components so you can RMA in confidence if needed.

*That partial splash screen image is very similar to the MB problem i had. I would defiantly update BIOS...

No M2 at all in the build.

Will swap out the GPU for an RX 580 i have lying round after the Bios update.

All ideas welcome, as you say im just trying to RMA the correct component.

Thanks Again guys.

Ok bios updated. Changed GPU and tried the other pci slot.

Still the same think its time to RMA the motherboard
Looks, smells and sounds like the motherboard issue with what you've manged to rule out with components to hand.

*When you tried the 3 different drives did you use a different SATA port with each attempt?

Tried 3 different ones yes, i have even tried different cables after one of the replies above too.

Yep, you know what you're doing and you've used the forum as a sounding board which is sensible.

Go with your gut - you've eliminated as much as you can with resources to hand.

Good luck.

Board has been changed, still the same issue, i have a mate coming round later with his cpu so we can test that. Failing that im at a loss!

2 separate GPU power cables instead of 1 daisy chained?

Is the cooler screwed down to tight?

Can you try a different PSU?

Tried Windows memory stick in USB2?

Only other things i can think of.

Yes on the gpu cables.

Cooler screwed correctly yes.

Psu and cpu are things i will try when mate arrives with his pc as its using the same parts.

Mem stick is on ive used numerous times so shouldnt really make a differance but can try i guess.

Thanks
