Hi guys,

Got a really annoying issue atm. I built my new build and booted from windows 7 disk and installed successfully.

However I cannot get any drivers on to the system as the ethernet and wifi both dont work without drivers and the usb ports both 2.0 and 3.0 arent recognising usb pens (tried different pens in different slots). I also tried plugging my phone in and it doesnt pick that up either.

The main info/specs

Windows 7
I7 7700K
Asus Maximus IX Formula (Z270)
16GB T Force Nighthawk 3200 RAM
Gigabyte G1 Gaming 1070

Any ideas?

Windows 7 doesn't officially support Kaby Lake - this may be the cause of your USB issues - drivers...

Had similar issues helping a forum member earlier in the year - he couldn't install Windows 7 via USB. We had to do a very convoluted process - hes' now on 10...

There are work around/patches but usually unofficial.

You may want to google - Windows 10 upgrade maybe looming.

Damn i was fearing i might have to take the plunge - Im a diehard Win7 fan and hate the new style windows!

My local pc world has Win10 HP on USB but not CD? How would that work? Is there an option to boot from USB or does the USB they provide need working USB drivers?

Windows 10 adds the drivers during install.

I would quick format and do a fresh install from scratch.

Ok when I boot up and go into BIOS will the Win10 USB appear in the boot priorities list? Or is there a special setting/option to boot from USB?

Just want to make sure this works before I spend £100 on an OS I didnt even really want!!

Make the USB the first bootable device in the BIOS save exit - then follow on screen prompts after reboot - very much like the CD process.

Perfect will go and grab it then, thanks for the help. I didnt even know the 7700K and Win7 technically were supported for each other! Been out of the pc building game for a while haha!

No worries.

Here you go - Clicky - Sky Lake example USB 10 install.

Should make you feel a bit more confident.

Ok i have the retail USB and booted from it however when it got to the disk selection I'm getting an error saying that Windows cannot be installed on my SSD due to it being MBR rather than GPT?!:confused::confused:

I tried formatting the main partition but no luck on that front.
