Bought the following spec over a month ago and was all working fine. Plugged it together and it worked first time (I know this is a bad sign :))

About two weeks ago I would get a blue screen every 2-3 days (I use the computer about 8hrs a day). I looked in the logs and saw it was an error saying that the 3D card had got in a loop and caused the blue screen plus reboot (this only happened when I was in games) So I changed the drivers and continued still every 2-3 days a blue screen but was never too hard to deal with. Then about a week ago when I got a blue screen and rebooted it as usual but this repeated the next 3-4 times I would start playing a game. Then it would be fine for 2-3 days again.

Today after playing for about 5hrs the PC just powered off no errors in logs nothing then after a reboot it powered off again as I got into Windows (Both XP and vista). After a few reboots it would not even post. I have a 7800 GTX in my other Pc so swapped it around and it still won’t post. My 8800 will not fit in my other PC so I am a bit stuck on testing the card.

From thinking it was just the graphics card to having no idea what it is.

Current state Summary...

PC wont POST with either 8800 or 7800 cards sometimes powers itself off
7800 is working fine in the other PC
Tried it with no graphics card in it and it wont post (no beeps)

Any idea which part is faulty? :) Or any other tests you think I could try to help find out what the problem is?

Any help would be much appreciated.

I have tried resettin the cmos and then putting one stick of RAM into each slot and rebooting with no change.

I can hear the CPU start to spin but and fans etc come on but I dont get any sound (hope I have the int speaker plugged in:P)

Does this point to anything? What should be next step be ?

Thanks for help so far anymore would be good :)

So it could be power supply, mobo, ram or Graphics ? :(

I could try the RAM in another PC though I am not sure if my old PC supports it.

Power wise it should run as I have an over kill wattage but it could be faulty I supose. Not really got another to test it with.

Graphics card I am confused on as my 7800 does not work in the new box so I guess this is looking unlikly.

mobo. Not going to be able to test it as I dont have one that can take all the parts...

Supose from the list mobo is looking quite likly. The only reason the 8800 wont go in my other PC is the mobo fan is in the way. Can I remove this for a short time ? Failing that it is time to ring up a few mates and see if they can test stuff for me :p

Help ? :))

Thanks again

Now thinking this is either Mobo or CPU. I assume I can'r really test this without getting another mobo :/

I have done a lot more shooting on this and i think the problem in the end was the Heat skink was so heavy it was shorting the mobo. But I am still having issues.

I boot it and in a random time frame between 3 secs and 5mins it will log solid with no error. It has locked during hard disk detection in bios and after talking to someone for 5mins on MSN.

Has anyone had thos before or know what it points too ?

Thanks again

Looks maybe like its the CPU as when it locks I still have fights on the mobo and the network card is still flashing?

How do I go about sending the CPU back it is over 28 days now after purchase :/

Could mobo still be to blame ?

Thanks again
