Hi everyone,

About a month ago a power spike killed my PSU motherboard, graphics and hard drives. Got a replacements the other day and started to rebuild this afternoon, this is where my issues started. After assembleing all the components and making sure all components have power, the motherboard led is lit, i try to start the computer and it powers on for a second, then shuts off.

My first thought was that i had a short somewhere so i disassembled and couldnt find one anywhere. So then i the built the system outside the case and the same issue occurs. I'm stumped as to what it could be. Is there a possibilty that the power spike killed my CPU and RAM as well? Could it be a ram compatibilty problem?

Specs:
I7 920 DO
X58 SABERTOOTH- NEW
Corsair Dominator GT 6GB 15000C7
5770-NEW
F4 320GB- NEW
XFX 850w- NEW
800D

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Try taking everything out and powering on with just mobo, you should get a series of error beeps indicating no cpu, if you do add cpu and try again, should then get beeps for no RAM, if you do then add RAM
If you dont get beeps with just mobo n psu then its probable one of them is DOA and will need RMAing again Im afraid

Couple of things to check, is the ram in the correct slots, I did this on my build, or try one stick at a time in each slot.

All power connections tight including the 8 pin for cpu power, also try a CMOS reset.

Thanks for your replies guys, I'll give everything you suggested a go. If the PSU is dead how likley is it that it damaged the new components? I'm assuming as theres only power to the system for less than a second that there isnt enough time for any damage to be caused. Also could the cpu/ram that isnt new cause damage to the psu/mobo and or anything else.

thanks again.

Thanks 95 & RJC all your help is really appreciated. Managed to blag a mate of mines rig and isolated the issue to the XFX PSU, connected it to his system and the issue occured again. Good news is the 5770, Sabertooth are fine.

thanks again.
