New Build........It's Been A While!

Ok, I know there's plenty of new build questions and I'm sorry for a long thread asking about another, but here goes.

I've decided to update my pc (specs in sig) and do a new windows 7 build. I have quite a few PCs I've built for family & friends, so I'll just filter my parts down through them. I have hardly ever messed about with overclocking any of my PCs.........I know, I know, strange forum to be on in that case :), but I have always found useful advice in here for building good stable systems.

One of the reasons I haven't overclocked my current PC is that I like to have cool'n'quiet on, so that when it's idle it doesn't use much processing power and I believe that having c'n'q and an overclocked athlon chip wasn't a good idea, but I may be wrong on that. However, I believe that on the I5/I7 you can overclock and still have speedstep on ?

If that's the case, I am tempted to go for one of the overclocked bundles from here, but can't really decide on an I5 750 or an I7 920. I don't play games on my PC anymore, but I do photo editing and I really need to start video editing all those tapes of my kids! As for budget, well I don't really know to be honest, if it's the I7 that's more suitable then I'll save up for that, but obviously I don't want to spend money needlessly. I think my case should be ok and I can swap the power supply in my PC for the wife's - I had to get a new psu for her earlier in the year so got the Corsair TX650. I'll sort out the hard drives separately, as I need to swap hard drives about.

Again, apologies for the length of the thread, but any ideas/opinions would be appreciated, cheers.

Currently have much the same setup as you and have been considering an upgrade over the last week, mainly due to wanting to change to Win 7. Thought I may as well do the hardware as well.

I did spend quite some time overclocking the current setup. In the end I felt I was just doing it for the sake of it so put all the settings back to stock !

After a lot of deliberation have decided to go for the i5 overlcoked bundle @3.6ghz.

I may well have gone for the 4ghz bundle, but the cooler wouldnt fit in my case. Ther is also someone experiencing some problems with this bundle.

I do some gaming although much less than I used to. The i7 was really the favourite, however, I really thought the extra money was a waste when considering my usage. Budget wasn't an issue, but I am sure compared to what I have the system will fly. The i7 bundle is almost half as much again, I couldn't justify it given my relatively light usage.

The i7 is better for proceesing your video files, but I would suggest in the real world you probably won't notice a massive difference. Certainly compared to your current rig, the i5will be night and day.

I have a Corsair Hx 620 psu, which is more than adequate. Yours should be fine.

My bundle will be here Wednesday, so I can report back and let you know how it is.

To be honest, I am thinking along the same lines as yourself at the moment, so I would be interested to hear how you get on with your new set up.

Regarding the power supply, mine doesn't have the 8pin 12V connector, only the 4pin, so I'd rather swap it with the Corsair which does have the 8 pin connector.
