Hi all, was just building a new computer for afriend which consisted of:

Enermax galaxy 1000W
QX6700
Tuniq Tower
BFG 680i Mobo
4Gb Corsair Dominator 6400 (2, 2x1Gb)
2x optical drives
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 500Gb Hdd
BFG 8800GTX

Basically got it all plugged in (after it took ages fitting the Tuniq Tower and then the 8-pin CPU Power connector wouldn't fit!) Went to try and turn it on and now nothing! The CPU fans, case fans etc, all spin then turn off, the mobo light (blue)stays on, but I am getting 2 continuous beeps i.e. beep beep, pause, beep beep pause...This is coming from the PSU and after reading the Manual it says it could possibly be borked, anybody got any ideas? Anything I could have missed, connectors etc? I am thinking that its probably the PSU, dont have another I could test it with unfortunately (and also if I did I doubt it would be powerful enough!)

Help

Thanks in advance

Kiz

ta for that mate, but the problem is the fans turn once then DONT come back on again, i.e. they dont spin at all :(

Just try running it with cpu, cooler, mobo, one stick of ram and psu and see if it posts. If that works, try putting the graphics card in and see if you get a display and slowly build it back up :)

Does it refuse to do anything at all after the first attempt to power up at the PC i.e pushing ON once gives you the split second power up but further attempts to power up at the PC yeild no results what so ever? Does switching it off at the mains reset it and allow you to get the same split second power up before it goes dead again?

If so it sounds exactly like what happened with a cheap PSU I got with my case. The Mobo power light stays on throughout but it simply refuses to switch over when you power up.

Thats exactly what happens, turning it on will give a split second power up, but then will not power on AT ALL after that :( It is an Enermax Galxay 1000W (I advised him to get the Corsair but he didn't listen...) According to the mobo manual it says something is either shorting (resulting in the possibility that it's borked, apparently) or check all the other components, I will try without the GFX card and see if that makes a difference.

Just a quick question: The mobo has an 8pin 12V connector on it, I have used the 2, 4Pin connectors together to make 8 pins, is this right or should I just have used the 8pin in the first place? They are both marked as being "CPU Only..."

Right I have managed to get the computer started, but the problem is, it doesn't post. No error codes, no beeps nothing...Nothing comes on the screen, (the monitor goes into power save mode (its a DELL 24")I know the monitor works as I am using it now) I have tried reseating the GFX card but this hasn't solved the problem, any other ideas?

Hmmmm.....the only reason I thought it was the GFX card was because everything powers up except theres no POST beeps and the monitor goes into power save mode....hope it's not anything else, I have tried with separate sticks of RAM (all combinations I could think of...) Surely, not the CPU? I don't have another CPU just 'lying' around, lol so I just don't know!

try it with 1 stick of ram, and if you've got a psu spare try that, if all else fails............

gently SMASH IT WITH A HAMMER, sorry to the op of another thread as I said I'll stop sometime soon

by aux you mean the auxiliary power connectors right ? The 2x 6-pin 12v connectors? They are both connected but still not POST beeps. I have tried resetting CMOS and it still doesn't work...

Have tried it with 1 stick of RAM and it still doesn't work, any other ideas?

CMOS resetted/1stick of RAM used/4-pin molex taken out (the AUX power on the motherboard - else the computer doesn't power up...)re-connected everything/reseated the CPU/reseated the GFX card (twice) still to no avail....any advice appreciated...

You could try the PSU in another machine which will narrow things down a bit. Have you tried booting without the gfx in at all?
