Hi guys,

My first post and first build.

I'm on a mission to build a decent spec PC as cheap as possible. I probably wanted to spend no more than £500

Now the spec i wanted was

Intel I5 2500k
Processor cooler.
Asus p8Z68 v lx ( I have seen the new Z77 board but i dont see how i can benefit more buy buying one, i could be wrong!)
A PSU of roughly 650-750w
WD black caviar HD 500GB
RAM - after reading on here im going to go with kingston hyper X 8GB
I will be buying a graphics card at a later date possible an MSI 560TI but i know nothing on these and possibly better out there for the money.

I've managed to buy a PSU and cooler

Cooler master silent pro m 1000w - This is modular and i managed to pick it up for £40
I also have a Zalman CNPS9900 MAX - picked up for £22

Could any see any problems with the above, suggest a better mobo possibly?

The other thing ill need is case fans which i have no idea on. i need x3
120mm and x1 140MM

Thanks for the reply but im not buying the IB's gains for the money if im honest. Especially when overclocking, whcih eventually i will be doing.

The 2500k and a z68 board should be fine for me i think.

An SSD isn't for me unfortunatly the price of them has rocketed recently and it's not going to be too much faster than a WD black in real use.

what are the benefits of the hyper X red over grey? just cheaper?

I wont be going SLI as unfortunatly i dont have that money to dispose at the moment with a baby and a car sound system build on going!

I see where you coming from i just dont like the temps on the Ivy's once Oc'd i may go for the Z77 board though, hardly anything in that pricewise.

I can pick the 2500k up for around 150-160.

thanks again for your help.

Compromise what? boot up times? doesnt really bother me if im honest, plus like i said the WD blac shouldnt be much slower.

I just want a quick Pc which i can have the occasional good gaming session on eventually. My little boy takes up most my time.

I guess its something to think about then, it will only be used to un-rar files, burn dual layer disks and the occasional gaming session.

Im not after overclocking to death either just 4ghz would probably suit me, my current pc is an AMD athlon 2.10ghz! so i guess anything will be better

I have bought a Asus P8Z68 V LX, couldn't refuse it at £50.

I need case fans, caviar HD, RAM and an intel I5 2500k and i think that will be me pretty much built.

The build in total should come to roughly £300

Just to update this i now have purchased the following.

Asus P8Z68 V LX - £50
Cooler master silent pro m 1000w - £40
Zalman CNPS9900 MAX - £22
1 TB Samsung HD103SJ - £38

I5 2500k is being bought end of the month along with RAM and im also still deciding on case fans and a case

Im thinking about the Antec one, dont really want to spend more than £50 on a case thats not going to be on display. Any suggestions welcome?

Thanks Stulid, dont like the look of the Bitfenix, the antec one and Z9 tick the right boxes though. what would you suggest case fan wise? I hear the akasa apaches are best but quite pricey.

Hello again

I now have
Asus P8Z68 V LX - £50
Cooler master silent pro m 1000w - £40
Zalman CNPS9900 MAX - £22

Also need to know which thermal paste to use if anyone has suggestions/ experiences with some and the 2500k?

Is there anything else im forgetting?

HyperX genesis purchased
Lamptron FC touch purchased
Prolimtech thermal paste purchased

What type of fans am i best getting with this controler ?

Should have some parts off OCUK this friday to start the build

Im more of a console gamer if im honest BF + COD are probably highest spec im looking at.

I just think it's worth putting one in a pc this spec to get the most out of it.

As for res i have no idea, currently looking at iiyama prolites.

thanks for confirmation! ill be looking at the 6850's which is best one to get, or is there not a perticular one to look out for?

I have about £130 for a monitor now too so any reccomendations on that would be great too.

start building tomorrow.

PC is now built and running great auto OC'd at 4.2ghz.

Monitor requirements have now totally changed.

Budget of £300 No bigger than 32" TV or monitor. no smaller than 24"

Conditions are must be able to play Xbox and PC.

I game more on the xbox than PC hence TV or monitor.
The pc will soon be running a 6850.

Thanks
