My first build was about 7 years ago, so I'm a bit out of touch with whats what. so decided to build a new one. i thought I could do it on my own again but I've spent the past 5 days reading forums and all I've got to show for it is 8gb of geil black dragon. I need pointing in the right direction. I do a bit of gaming, a lot of movie watching and technical drawings I'd like to be able to transfer sound over hdmi rather than spidf as my current gts 250 wont.

Only requirement is I'd like a nice case that doesn't look too obtrusive oh and to be pretty quiet

no particular budget

thanks in advance

for overclocking

cards to add depending on budget,

1 x MSI HD 7950 Twin Frozr III OC V2 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card with Crysis 3 & Bioshock PC Games £239.99
1 x Gigabyte ATI Radeon HD 7850 OC Windforce 2X 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card with Tomb Raider & Bioshock PC Games £161.99

to be very honest, cases are like keyboards and mice and are personnel things to chose, not a complete build as no kb or mouse, monitor or o/s either

better to give a budget then can work to something, as i wouldn't add a 1tb hdd either, but don't know your needs so just guessed, for me if gaming 2 or 3tb is min, sdd is middle of the road with size and speed v price etc

Those cases don't come with fans or anything Zak.

Also I would get a blu-ray retail drive for the playback software etc.

true but as i don'y know o/s in use, if windows 8 yes needs retail, if win 7 oem will be fine as can DL codec pack with media player in it, for dvd/bluray use for free

can point to some case fans, not that much should add them to all builds now, i keep forgetting that not everyone has a box of bits lying around :(

thanks m8

Thanks for the fast replies! and thanks for the builds.Sorry I didn't put a budget I didn't have a clue about how much parts cost and they vary so much (far too many revisions for my poor brain to handle). I'd like to keep it around 800 but if it goes over its not a big deal.

Apologies for the lack of info I shall try to be as specific as i can.

I perhaps should state that all this runs through a 42 inch plasma at the moment will be upgrading to at least a 55 inch in the next few months

Have ordered 8gb of geil black dragon 1600
I can use my old 1tb from my previous system would prefer 3tb however, am I better off buying a 3tb or adding a 2 tb ?
Already have microsoft arc keyboard and mouse for media type stuff (orders from the other half about too many wires) and wired razer for gaming and things.

I have a spare win 8 key kicking about so will probably use that as I'm nearly used to using it. When it stops bsod'ing

Like the case!

thanks

none OCing, removed cooler and used stock fan, still could do with another case fan, but about it tbh

if using win 8 then also changed to retail bluray with software for o/s for both builds
