Hi All,

Just built a new rig (first one in 10 years so I'm learning lots again) as follows:
  • Gigabyte GeForce RTX 3060 Gaming OC V2 LHR 12GB GDDR6 PCI-Express Graphics Card
  • Asus ROG Maximus Z790 Hero (LGA 1700) DDR5 ATX Motherboard
  • 1 X Corsair RMx Series RM1000x 80 PLUS Gold Fully Modular ATX Power Supply
  • 1 X Intel Core i9-13900K (Raptor Lake) Socket LGA1700 Processor
  • 1 X Corsair Vengeance EXPO 64GB (2X32GB) DDR5 PC5-44800C40 5600MHz Dual Channel Kit
  • 1 X Arctic Liquid Freezer II High Performance CPU Water Cooler

Have started it up and all lights / fans / AIO all seem to be working fine but getting no display on monitor (monitor works fine as have old PC running on it now).

Qcode on MB says 00 - manual states this means "Not Used" but quick internet search indicates problems - before I take everything apart any insights from those more experienced than I would be most welcome!

Thanks and happy Friday!

J

How long are you waiting for boot?

Have you tried other cables/monitors? (especially dp instead of hdmi and vice versa)

Have you tried onboard graphics instead?

Thanks for quick response - I have tried HDMI and DP on Graphics Card (and yes fans / lights are going on card) and HDMI on MoBo (DPI cable I know works as am using that now on old PC).

Could be the HDMI cable which is an old Sky one so can try that ... any reason why DP shouldn't work though?

This is AMD AM5 7000 configured ram, could be your problem.

Damn it! Good spot ... even says that on the front of the packet in large bold letters .... doh!

Let me call OC ...
Expo memory just have a couple of extra profiles if you use an AMD CPU there will be xmp profiles for intel as well, would be surprised if that the problem.

Update the bios on the motherboard.

Sorry if this is a stupid question but can I do that with sticking a USB with updated bios in the BIOS USB socket on the back - without being able to see anything on display / get into original BIOS and while getting 00 error on MoBo?
You have a feature called bios flashback button on your motherboard which you can update the bios by loading the new bios onto a USB and inserting it in a specific usb port and pressing a button on the board . Look at the manual on how to do this but first contact Overclockers like you said for there advice.

Things to check before try booting with just one stick of memory in each slot if the previous fails, also check the motherboard CPU socket for bent pins do this first.

Also remove the GPU and try the onboard graphics on the motherboard.

Ok - I updated BIOS just now using the flash tool - nice and easy as you suggested. Alas no luck - still getting 00.

Next step I can try removing everything / all connections other than one stick of RAM and CPU .... but I am beginning to wonder if the RAM compatibility might be a simple solution here (common things happen commonly after all - like using the wrong part) ...

Looking on ASUS link I don't think the RAM I have is listed: https://rog.asus.com/motherboards/rog-maximus/rog-maximus-z790-hero-model/helpdesk_qvl_memory/

Then again some articles do indicate they EXPO should still work on this board ...

G.Skill Trident Z5 or Ripjaws S5 seem to be a safe bet, ive never had a problem using G.Skill on any board to be honest, one of my go to brands.

Ok - still no luck... so far I have:
  • Updated BIOS
  • Cleared CMOS and changed battery
  • Removed all components and case connections except CPU / x1 RAM stick (and tried RAM in all four slots)
  • Checked CPU (it was in right)
So to me (and I hope I'm wrong) I have three things left to to try:
  • Try to boot up board outside of case to ensure no issues with case (Be Quiet Sound Base)
  • Exclude RAM as issue (alas I dion't have any other sticks to try that would work)
  • I have a dead CPU (in reality how often does that happen though - this things is brand new - and I don't have a second one to try)
Am I missing anything / any other ideas?

Going to pub for lunch to drown my sorrows ... :-)

You have it correct, do the build Outs de the case mobo, CPU , one stick memory and psu .

As long as your psu is good I would say it's time to send CPU, mobo possibly memory back .

If you got them all from the same place ask if you can send all 3 back to be tested.

Ok - firstly thanks to all for thoughts and recomendations - much appreciated.

OcUK have confirmed RAM is not comaptable so will RMA - will report back when I have this sorted (in case this thread also helps someone else).

I would be surprised if it was the rams fault.
Jedec defaults would have been applied first as xmp/expo are considered overclocks.
We shall see...
