Hi,

I need help please.

I'm having a similar problem to this;

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17760106

But still haven't been able to get to a post screen

The pc turns on, and shuts off/resets fine, all the fans come on, (case fans and cpu fan), the dvd drive light, and hddrive cooler lights and temp display work.

lights on the motherboard and graphics card are working too, as are their fans

monitor light starts amber and changes to green when the pc is powered on, but never displays a post, (just sits on a black screen)

I've tried a different graphics card and different monitor with the same result

Every thing is new from ocuk, and just assembled

Core 2 Duo E6850
ati hd 2900 xt
corsair hx 620w modular sli psu
asus p5k deluxe mb
2 gig ocz pc2 8500 sli ready
raptor hdd

The psu has a 24 pin plug, a 4 pin, and an 8 pin, and the mb has a 24 socket, and 2x 4 sockets (the left one of which was covered with a cover)

***
I've tried the 24 pin connector on the board, along with the 4 pin connector connected (everything comes on, but no display)

The 24 pin connected on its own (board powers up, then turns itself back off)

The 24 pin connected, along the 8 pin connector instead of the 4 pin one (everything works but no display)

tried a 1950 graphics card instead of the 2900, no joy
tried another monitor which works on a dif pc, no joy

tried everything disconnected but the 24 and the 4 pin connectors and the cpu fan, and graphics connector, no joy

tried moving the memory into other slots, no joy

***

Whats puzzling is that everything seems to be working, but just not giving a display, and the board doesn't give speech errors, even when started with no memory at all in it

Just took a speaker from another pc and connected it, the board beeps once when switched on, the monitors light changes to green, then about 5 seconds later there are 2 very fast close together beeps, then nothing more

manual only gives 4 error codes, the closest one it has is one continous beep followed by 2 short beeps which repeats, however the board makes one beep, (not continous), then 2 short beeps 8 secs or so later, but doesn't repeat

I only have the one cpu which works in this board, nothing from my other pc is compatable

In that list you linked to the cpu is listed;
Core 2 Duo E6850 (3.00GHz,1333FSB,L2:4MB,rev.G0) ALL
0311

does that mean it needs , or doesn't need an update for it to work?

How can I update the bios, if it needs updating, if i have no other cpu, and can't see anything on screen?

I've no idea even which version of bios is on the board, just bought and arrived yesterday though

Just had a look at the manual page 4.1.4 it says you can copy the latest bios onto a dvd or flash drive the restart your comp with the dvd or flash drive in it then finds the bios and updates itself this might work give it a try. ;)

reading it now, ta

I know that I am probably going to sound like an idiot, but what is "posting"? Im ordering a build myself tomorrow, and keep hearing terminology that I dont understand!

power on self test , the first text that appears on screen prior to entering the os

Just tried the usb method, no joy

It must either only work if your bios is corrupt, or the bios isn't set to boot from usb, or is working and i can't see it as i've no display still

Flashing a bios can take a while id leave it going for 10mins just tobe sure also would use a dvd or cd rather than usb key. If it dosnt work rhe only other way to sort it is to lend a cpu off someone or buy a cheap celeron where abots are you address wise?

left it for ages as i couldn't tell if it was doing anything or not from the flash drive, then rebooted, still the same with no display

Have you tried running the motherboard outside the case with nothing but CPU, single stick of RAM and gfx card connected?

Have you got both the 8 pin and 6 pin (or 2x 6 pin) power connectors plugged in to the HD2900XT, if not it wont boot.

Made the same mistake when intalling mine stumped me for 10 min :D

Edit: oops read you tried a diff card

went into town and bough a cheepo stick of ddr2 to test on the board.

Tried booting with everything outside the case, and just the el cheepo memory and cpu/hs ink /gfx card in, still no post being displayed

ordered a cheep 775 cpu to try next, this is getting ridiculous though, first had to virtually buy an entire pc cause nothing in my old system was compatible when the board on it packed in, and now i've had to buy new ram and cpu to try to get a new build to post :(

I'm still having no luck with this board.

memory I bought didn't work, bought a new cpu just to get a post so I could upgrade the bios, and the cpu I bought doesn't seem to work in it either :(

Celeron D 331+ was what I got, lga775 , so I would have thought it would have worked, anyone know if this cpu works in this board or not?
