Hello

Just finished building my new machine, however having problems.

I am getting no display at all. Ive tried both dvi ports but i am using a vga monitor with an adapter. The asus lcd screen says "check cpu" which i guess because i dont have a cpu fan plugged in and "vga bios".

Specs:

Q9550
Asus Maximus 2 P45
2 x 2GB OCZ 1033MHZ DDR2
ATI 4870 1Gb

gcard + cpu are watercooled.

Any ideas?

Couple of things, have you plugged the 4 or 8 pin in for the cpu power supply, gpu power cables installed tightly.
Try a CMOS reset, if that fails try one stick of ram at time.

got the 8 pin plugged in, both 6 pin pci express cables are plugged in.

il go try a cmos reset then with 1 stick of ram.

heres a question:

if i have my 4870 in the top pcie slot but put another card in the 2nd slot, any way of being able to use the 2nd slot card to test if its the board or the gcard. Gonna take awhile to put the 4870 in slot number 2 as theres not really any slack on the tubing :p

after having a quick look on the net looks like this is a kinda common problem most people have to rma

isnt looking good :(

Is there anyway of testing another gpu in the original slot and move the original gpu to one side as your tubing is a bit tight - if you see what I mean

yeh i see what you mean, i think the only way would be to take the waterblock off the card while still attached but not even sure then.

just tested with 1 stick of ram, cleared cmos (atleast pressed the "clear cmos" button at the back. also tried without the sound card. still no joy :(

might get up early and remove the gcard and try a different one. probably give asus a ring as well.

Like you say have a play tomorrow and see if you get any joy :)
It's a pain when you need to take the whole thing apart :(

hmm think its worth trying to reseat the card as well as reseating the watercooling block? just emailed someone else who had a similar problem off here and the problem was the graphics card.

ok tried my old 6800gt in it worked got display tho i still had vga bios message :s

i had to remove my waterblock to get it out

going to get a friend to test the card in his machine tomorrow to find out whether its fatal or something else

if it works il try it in my machine with standard cooler.
