Check all the boot order options and make sure your HDD is listed as a second boot device. With regards to the vista screen with just a mouse pointer, if you give it about 10mins it will eventually load up with some information, its just slow.

Oh a second thing you might want to try if the HDD still doesn't "detect", look at the manual and see what it says regarding SATA ports and where you should plug the "primary" hard drive in to (as in which port).

And make sure the HDD is not plugged into RAID ports (Usually 2 are a different coulour if the board has it) as the OS will usually need a seperate driver for them.

Boot settings in BIOS ?
Make sure the HDD is set as primary master (1st drive).
Also make sure both SATA and POWER cables are connected correctly to harddrive and PSU.

All was already checked, as per people suggested..
what I didn't do was wait 10 min

its now installing.
Cheers guys

I want to set my HDD in raid at some point for faster speed.
At this point in time i need to know

A) can i reinstall the oem vista
B) can I keep all data on this hdd now (installing windows and apps) when i switch to raid
C) will the HDD need formatting and reinstalling?

yea i noticed B) & C) were basically the same question..
what a plonka!

kind regards

A) You can reinstall belongs the motherboard stays the same, you might need to use
the automated telephone service.
B & C) I think all data will be wiped as you proberly need to format.

can i use 4 hdd, 2 as 1 drive, plus a scratch disc (for photoshop) and 1 to backup?
