New build no post and no beeps

I just got myself my new hardware for a new build:

AMD Phenom 955
XFX 5850
Gigabyte MA770-UD3
4gb Corsair XM3 Memory
Corsair 500W Builder Series PSU

I put all of the build together and managed to power it up to install windows but realised that my DVD-ROM drive wasn't being detected by the BIOS and I had my 2 hard drives installed via SATA and they were both being recognised. I opened my PC up to inspect the DVD-ROM drive to see if I put the IDE cable the wrong way around but everything looked fine so I booted it up again to see if I could tweak any BIOS settings.

When trying to boot it up all I got was a blank screen with no beep codes and the CPU fan seems to be fluctuating in power judging from the sounds.

I have tried reconnecting everything and reseating everything except the CPU. Any ideas guys?

Have you made sure you've connected the 8 pin power connector for the CPU?

Did you install the motherboard standoffs?

Power cables fitted to the graphics card?

I assume you're using a molex to PCI-E power adapter as that PSU only has one power cable for the graphics card.

Try starting with all the drives disconnected and one stick of RAM at a time.

After a few tests it turns out it was actually the graphics card with the loud fluctuating fan, I tried it in my bros PC and the graphics card is working 100%.

I will try the CMOS idea now, thanks

Reseating the CMOS didn't change anything however I decided to see if there would be any beep codes of I didn't put any memory in and after booting up with no memory the motherboard didn't give me any beeps. Does this mean that my motherboard is a goner?

There is no speaker lead that I can find there is only 4 of those leads that are POWER. RESET, HDD LED and another one that says P+ and P-

My xfx 5850 would not work with a 500w psu the fan would spin up to 100%, it worked with a 700w so i gave it a corsair 850.

My brother has the same hardware as me and the GFX card worked in his PC and he has a 400w PSU, mine is 500w.

The speaker pins are located on the FP connector head.. so if you've no speaker attachment on your case, then you can buy one for a few quid..

This troubleshooting guide may help you:

Yeah I think I might take the speaker out from my old case.

Sorted it now, for some reason my 2 ram sticks don't like sitting next to each other so I put them in slot 1 and 3 and I was able to install Win7 fine.

Now I have a new problem, my XFX 5850's fan is ridiculously loud and I can't seem to quiet it down. I've tried lowering the fan speed in the overdrive section of the ATI CCC but it has absolutely no effect whatsoever.

Have you installed the latest ati drivers ?

hmm that is really strange could be a motherboard fault i suppose, do you have another pc you could try the dvd drive in and rule that out as the problem ?
Edit : try to boot with the bare essentials , one hdd and the dvd drive and one stick of ram. That has worked for me in the past then get it set up and add the rest, i have had to do that a few times when OC'ing

Whoops I for got to update this thread.

It's working fine now, the problem was the RAM. They don't like sitting next to each other so now there in slots 1 & 3. Their supposed to be dual channel but don't work together which is pretty strange
