New build no POST and resetting

So I have been building a PC for a friend, and having just completed it I tested it. No POST.

I have been through all the usual steps but I still have no idea. All the fans spin up, but I get no beeps and no display. Even worse is it keeps resetting every 5-10 seconds (fans/lights go off and back on, including on the graphics card).

I have tried removing everything apart from the CPU & cooler, even the RAM and all I get then is a constant beeping, but it still resets every 5-10 seconds.

Relevant specs below:
FX 6350 CPU
Corsair H80 refurb
Gigabyte 970A-UD3P motherboard
Corsair CX600 Modular PSU

I'm completely out of ideas now, I can only assume either the CPU, mobo or PSU are faulty. Unfortunately I have no spares to test.

I'd try taking out the CPU as well, who knows, maybe not making perfect connection with pins (check for any bent pins in the motherboard CPU socket whilst you're at it). But wait for other ideas first.

As a last resort, send all the stuff back before you lose the right to be refunded. Only mentioning this because you don't have spares to test, and that can make it tricky to determine the cause.

Are the i/o connectors in the right way? Power, HDD led etc?

Can you take pics of everything, especially the mobo area?

i just had the same thing i had 2 bent pins on cpu!!

I have just gone through the exact same problem with an Asus Z97, it turned out to be a dead motherboard.

Thanks for the replies. I did carefully check the CPU and socket before I installed it, and didn't notice anything, but I suppose I could check again as a last resort.

Yes I tried removing all but the power switch connector and still had the same issue.

I will post some pics tomorrow.

If it is a dead mobo, that's going to be a right pain to swap out. Due to the small case I will have to remove literally everything.

I can't believe the luck I have had with this PC. It's meant to be for my friends birthday and so far I've had 2 RMAs and 2 items gone missing in post, and now this. His birthday was last week

All the parts I bought from Overclockers have been perfect however! I wish the other stuff had been in stock at the time.

if the board was old stock may not have the latest bios to support the 6350

I did check this but it seems every cpu was supported by the original bios.

What exactly did you want pics of? As it's quite hard to see anything under the H80.

I tried reseating the cooler in case it wasn't on properly and the CPU was overheating, but it had a perfect connection.

I'm completely out of ideas so I may just RMA the motherboard.

UPDATE!

So I bought a replacement motherboard as I suspected it was that, and having swapped the boards over the problem is still there! Only this time I am using the stock HSF instead of the H80, and the CPU fan spins for about 1-2 seconds then stops - forever :confused:

Plugging the CPU fan into a SYS_FAN socket works fine, the fan spins at full speed.

I then dusted off an old PSU which I knew worked 100% last time I used it, swapped the PSUs over and tried again. Problem still exactly the same. Only this time the PSU caught fire after 10 seconds. I unplugged it and threw it outside. Something really doesn't want me to finish this PC.

So that only leaves the CPU. I thought it was super rare for a CPU to be DOA?

I'm pretty fed up with everything now.

When you fitted the motherboard to the case did you make sure the standoffs that lift the board away from the case were only where a screw hole was present in the PCB?

Maybe there is a standoff shorting the board out as it should not be there.

Yes, that was one of my first thoughts too so I double checked and they are all in the right place.

I've ordered another CPU now so hopefully I can confirm it's the CPU, as that's the only thing I haven't changed.

I'm having the exact same problem, a new CPU and RAM stick should come for me tomorrow (meaning I'll have a completely new rig almost)

Seeing as you've tried replacing RAM though, what we both have in common is that we haven't changed the CPU.

FIXED!

I can't believe this but it was both sticks of memory :mad:

The first thing I tried was each stick on it's own in each slot. It never occurred that both could be faulty.

So I have a working PC for my friend, but I also now have an extra motherboard and CPU

Send them back under DSR ?

Lucky, I just tried a fresh new stick of RAM and that doesn't work either. I'm actually lost.
