Can anyone tell me if this is normal, got a hx620, noctua vortex control (NF-P or something) fans in an antec p182, evga 8800gt, 4gb ram. When I bootup I hear a fan spinning up (like a fan under load) quite loudly, then it quiets down again as soon as it goes into the boot sequence, is this the vga cooler or is something wrong? I've connected my fans behind the motherboard with molex connectors

By the way, can the end of a fan molex lead be used to plug into the back of another fan molex connector ie chain them up to avoid having to connect a lot of molex leads from the psu. Would it be better to connect my fans to the motherboard? (I get "CPU fan error" when I bootup presumably due to having connected my fans directly to the psu).

Edit: Oh by the way, I have a raptor (though its in a smartdrive enclosure so it should be quiet), could the noise be the drive spinning up?

Also I wondered about my temps, bios shows 28C cpu temp, 27 mobo temp, these are good for a q6600 with thermalright extreme right?

Thanks for any insight!

Yeah that noise is perfectly normal with the 8800GT, I've got one too and is does exactly the same thing. And yeah it is pretty loud :) I guess it's sort of annoying but I haven't been bothered enough to get a custom cooler for it yet :p

And as for the fan connector thing, that's exactly what I've done in my Antec 900, as it comes with four fans and like you say it opens up other connectors on the PSU for other things. I don't think it'd be possible (although i may be wrong) to connect the fans to the motherboard connector because as far as I know they draw too much current, and so have to be connected directly to the PSU

Ta muchly for the quick response, I have an Arctic Cooling Accellero S1 for my 8800gt, I'm just too scared to fit it at the moment lol! But with that fricking noise I most certainly will be as soon as I get the balls!

Yeah I thought as much about the current, I guess the cpu fan error thing can be disabled in bios, since the fan is spinning fine, I take it it just can't be detected due to not being connected to the usual hsf mobo connector.
