Hello everyone.

I finally built my computer last night and everything seemed to be going well, too well.

Had it all fire up and running, hard drives spinning, waterloop runing, Optical drive functioning, mouse/keyboard recognised etc. Then that's when it happened, no post screen or anything else on the screen showing.

So first I started by re-seating all the components. Nothing changes. Re cable the whole system, no such luck. Try booting with no RAM, 1 RAM stick and different RAM sticks. Nothing.

Installed old GPU. Still nothing. Removed the CMOS Battery to reset. Nothing. Disconnected the PSU and held power button down for 1min as advised by someone else. Nothing.

So yeah I believe it has to be a CPU/Motherboard issue but since I haven't touched that I am wondering how. Have not got any burn marks or smell by the way on any components.

Spec for system is as follows:

i7 920 1366 socket CPU
Asus P6T Deluxe Mobo
HD7950 ATI GPU (New)
6GB tri-channel Corsair Dominator RAM
2No. Samsung 750GB hard drives
LG Blu-ray Optic drive
1300w Tagan PSU
Water Loop with 1No. twin RAD and Res bay. GPU & CPU in loop.
Windows Vista currently (was upgrading once SSD arrives)

Anyways yeah have no idea what is going on and stripping the whole water loop down is going to be a pain. Lucky I made one tube long for easy draining.

Kind Regards,

Adam

I know it is a pretty shocking PSU. It is old and I didn't pay for it but there is no way my load through the system should be pushing the PSU, surely?

As you don`t have onboard graphics, do you have another Gpu you can try.
Also try connecting to another monitor or TV.
Can you confirm the Psu is still powering up and mobo and fans are indeed working.

Yep, all powers up just fine. The good thing about the PSU is that it has lights all over it like an xmas tree and that is working all good. Mobo has power at least going to USB at rear.

I have got a spare GPU. Only issue with it being a water loop I now need to drain it all and try again. All fans are working and the pump which is also running of a fan header at moment.

In that case, try another monitor or your TV, to rule the monitor out, before draining your system.
I know when I built my system, had a similar problem, suspected everything but the monitor. But it seemed to take that particular moment to die on me. I had an old 17" monitor, which still works, to test in on. And to make matters worst it had 1 month`s warranty left but the company who made it had gone out of business. Sods law I guess. :D

Dang, that sounds like bad news. Am at work at moment but will try later. Also it is on a 42" Plasma. Have tried the dedicated PC channel via DVI and on another HDMI channel with no success though so guess I am still going to need to do the loop drain.

Just got the colour all sorted as well with the Pastel Blue and dye haha.

Thanks for the input so far.

Ok so I stripped the loop down and installed old GPU and still no picture so I guess that rules out the new one.

I think it is the mobo. Not sure how or why but that seem pretty much the only thing left as a variable.

Crap!

Ok something interesting is happening with the mobo. I just plugged in an infrared mouse direct to the rear of the mobo.

The light goes on and then turns off again almost instantly. So it does appear to be a mobo or PSU issue. Anyone seen this before? Is something on the way out completely. I have had it sitting and running for an hour with no issues otherwise.

When you say "finally built", do you mean a new build or just your watercooling.
If a new build, did you do a fresh install of windows.

Couldn't get anything to work over weekend so it has gone to a friend who has professional testing equipment and spare mobo's, psu's and gpu cards he can try etc.

Will hopefully have the details later today about what happened with the system. In the mean time I built my flat tenant a bday present with the spec below (bare in mind it cost me £150 total new (from another friend)):

  • Asus M5A97 PRO 970 Socket AM3+ 8 Channel HD Audio ATX Motherboard
  • AMD FX-4 4100 Black Edition 4 Core 3.6Ghz Socket AM3+ 8MB L3 Cache CPU
  • Corsair 8GB DDR3 1866Mhz Vengeance RAM
  • PowerColor HD 6850 1GB GDDR5 Dual DVI HDMI DisplayPort PCI-E Graphics Card
  • Coolermaster GX 650W PSU
  • Coolermaster Silencio 550 Case
  • Samsung SyncMaster 2233SW screen

Hard drive, I am going to provide one of my 750GB drives for the data and he is going to use a small SSD for the OS install. Am wiring up tonight so will get some pictures up later with this build.

Have you tested it out of the case? Just cpu, 1 stick ram, gfx card and power, see what happens.

Yep, same issue. I think something must have gone on the mobo that I cannot physically see or I am overloading one particular rail in the PSU so it starts but hasn't enough power on said rail to actually post.

Am sure it will be all sorted soon enough. Thanks for the input.
