Hi,

I've just taken delivery of a Q6600, an Arctic Cooler 7, an ASUS P5K Pro and 4GB of Geil 6400 DDR2.

Installed all in my Antec 900 with Corsair 580W PSU which ran my old system fine.

With just the memory and graphics installed I power up and the green LED on the mobo comes on. Powered up and CPU fan starts but I get no POST beeps at all and nothing on the display. I've checked and reseated the CPU, checked all connectors etc. and get the same result.

Any suggestions please?

Cheers

Andy

So you get no warning beeps then?
If there is no warning beep then it is not a cpu heatsink problem, from my experience Asus always have a warning for that.

I take it you ahev reset the cmos.
Also Asus are very picky with their ram, is your ram asus certified.

Ok. Just went back up and took out 2GB of the RAM (2 sticks) and it booted. This let me in to the BIOS where I could set the RAM to 4-4-4-12 and the DRAM voltage to 2.1 as per the info for the Geil. Rebooted. OK. Put the other 2GB back in and now it boots OK. Had a minor panic when the CPU fan started straightaway, then seemed to pause for a second, then kicked on properly.

I'm hoping this is OK now and I can start plugging in the rest of the kit. Looking forward to Quad core 3Ghz+ goodness :)

I think the CPU starting for a few secs, then stopping and starting again is just an issue with the Asus P5K boards as mine does it too. I hear the GPU and CPU spin up for 1 sec, then they stop, then they start up agaiin fine.

That's useful to know. Thanks.

Been after Quad for a while and looking forward to this build. I've never had a system fail before and was a bit annoyed when it seemed it had finally happened!

Cheers
