Gigabyte EX58 UD5
6 Gig Patriot Viper DDR3 1280
Intel Core i7 DO
Seasonic M12D 850 Watt Modular PS

I have those items out of the case with the CPU fan and a case fan connected. I've tried every stick of Ram, no Ram in every socket - No joy. All that hapens is the fans twitch, then nothing.

Did I read somewhere that there is a compatibillity promlem with Seasonic and Gigabyte?

Anyhow what can I try now? It has booted on a couple occasions, but not consistantly.

Edit: 24 and 8 pin power leads are connected.

Sometimes my power connector to the motherboard comes lose and the fans twitch and the lights go on but doesn't power up. Try making sure all the power connectors are in tight.

Why though , not doubting anyone there obviously is an issue but how could there possibly be an issue between a certain make of mobo and psu, did anyone ever find out why?

I was having the same exact problem the other day, power up > lights on motherboard > press power button > fans spin for half a second and a click from the PSU.

Tested everything and found out that 1 of my RAM sticks was borked. Took that out now works like a dream. I know wev'e got very different components but worth a mention i guess. Good luck :)

Just checking, you have a speaker connected don't you? It might have one built in, but I'm not sure.

He says there is a cpu fan attached, what're you two on about?

I dont understand the incompatibilty either, not read the other thread yet but Id expect seasonic to have something to say on the matter even if gigabyte don't

yeh get some fans on that thing asap... if it does boot up your chip is gonna cook...

That cooler is will run passive for a while.

I've managed to boot by turning the PSU off and on then pushing the start button. It takes about 20 goes then it posts. Win 7 loaded, loaded optimal settings in BIOS and set other settings.

Once this thing is running it is stable. Idle temps around 36, the highest temp I can get running IntelBurnTest is 61. All three sticks of ram are now fitted and the other components.

Its just this start up problem, it takes around 20 atemps to startup. This can't be anything other than the PS can it.

I don't have a speaker. The other posters are commenting on there being no fan attached to the cooler. (its lying loose, just pluggeg into to the MB to avoid probs with the MB reporting no fan on CPU)

Edit: Half way through my second bottle of red. I think I'd better stop now, but keep the suggestions comming.

Can you confirm the PSU works? Hot wire it by jumpering 2 pins. Can never remember which ones though. Black and grey or green. Double check and dont take my word for which ones.

If I started poking about inside the PS I'm sure I'd electrocute myself. The PS works well when it eventually starts after around 20 cycles of turning on and off. I've just run Prime95 64 bit for 30 mins, all cores at 100%, no problems. Highest temp recorded 61 deg.

I'm going to leave it running overnight. Had enough for one day. I finished work at 0600 this morning, was up at 0800 for UDP parcel delivery, been at it ever since. See you all tomorrow.
