Ok, having started my topic RE my specs last week.

I have now decided to lift my ban on ATI and give them a chance.

I am am building myself a new rig...

i7
Rampage 2
6gb

Blah Blah.

GFX... Do i wait for GTX470 / 480, buy a Top end ATI now "OR" Wait untill we know more of the next gen ATI.

I hate waiting...

If you hate waiting get what you want now. These top end ATI's are beasts and will last a while so I cant see it being a problem.

On the other hand 'Good things come to those who wait' hehe

Current ATi cards are more future proof with DX11 and all compared to current nVidia. Chances are Fermi wont be that much more powerful than the 5000 series. Either card will last you a while, waiting is only if you really want an nVidia or a price drop from ATi.

"All good things come to those who wait"

That is very ture but... when the 480 is here, it will be the same, waiting for the 5xx?

I suppose what i am really asking...

What would you do if you allready had a:

QX6700
SLi 8800 Ultras
8gb ram

And

Q6700
GTS260
4gb ram

Would you wait to start the new build? Build the new rig - the GPU or start the build and buy components as and when required.

With those builds I wouldn't bother with a new one, they will run most games fine, if you just WANT to upgrade, that is a different story.

i have been promising my self an upgrade for ages.
my main PC is doing my head in, i am getting a crap load of heat from the board, too much to be fair, and i want to start a new project.

So i think its time to build my last PC for a few years.

If you think thats crazy,

Media PC (Bed room)
Phenom black 3ghz quad
9800GT Silent
8gb ram
bluray
antec fusion

Spare Media PC:
7800 GTX
DFI Lan Party
FX55

Gaming rig:
QX6700
SLI 8800 Ultras
160gb SSD
300 Raptor
3tb WD Green (1.5 x2)
Striker Extreme

Spare Gamer:
Q6700
GTS250 green
P5D Delux SLi
4gb

Dell Optiplex 775

Another quad Phenom rig

2 spare older ones.

I had my folding farm pumping out a SHED load of points.

I am going to be selling most of the above bar Spare Gamer and Media PC.

Any further info on this?

Not really sure what your after? If you just want someone to say "yeah get a new PC" I dont think you will. If you really want to upgrade, do it, but as others have said what you already have is more than adequate. If you really must upgrade, id sell some of your old pc's/parts and get a 5850 or 70. Nvidia's new cards may be a bit faster than the ATI ones (may not be) but they will almost certainly be dearer (newer tech always is). It may bring the price of the ATI's down slightly but again who knows? And if heat is your problem why not invest in a new cooler maybe a H50 or some custom watercooling?

Well i don't see much point in waiting for fermi, it may turn out that they're great and competitively priced (lol) but either way they're gonna be in short supply and you're gonna have to wait a long time for one.

You may aswell upgrade now in my opinion, at least to a better gpu and cpu cooler for your gaming rig :)
