Hi.
My son is wanting a pc to play games on, music, stream TV and do general stuff 14 year old lads do ;) and homework.
Anyway I built a pc ages ago and was wondering what I could get for about £500-£550.
I had a look at some Bare bone stuff and some of the small form pc's but I am looking for some good advice on the right way to go.
What type of gaming performance would I expect?

I built this.

And also have a msi gt660 gaming laptop. Does SSD make a big difference?
Thanks in advance.

I have no idea what is inside your laptop, but compared to the old rig you linked too, it's multiple times faster.

It will be faster than the laptop.

The CPU is more powerful (true quad core and faster clock speed).
