new build on the books

hi all. I am now faced with a new build as my old (very old) PC has reached the end of it's useful life. after many upgrades it is now not worth carrying on with. i can hardly keep it running for a day so it's time to say goodbye. I am looking for any advice on a build that maybe will go into my Coarsair ATX case. i have been advised to start looking in the region of: AM4 - MSi MAG B550 - Ryzen 5-5600. i would like to explore cheaper options without losing too much spec. I will not be doing any hard-core gaming. World of Tanks is about as exciting as things get for me these days. so just a decent reliable and stable PC that will last a good few years, is all i need really. so any advice on a weel matched set of components would be greatly appreciated. :cool:

Thank you both, MickyFlinn & Haz123 for your help. so i am thinking i could go for something like Haz123's suggestion minus the GPU and see how it goes. a GPU could be added later if deemed necessary (?)

or a similar type of build based on the AM4 socket :

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/msi-mag-b550-tomahawk-amd-am4-b550-atx-motherboard-mb-359-ms.html = £149.99
https://www.overclockers.co.uk/amd-...hz-socket-am4-processor-retail-cp-3d2-am.html =£188.99
https://www.overclockers.co.uk/king...00c17-3600mhz-dual-channel-kit-my-29a-ks.html = £74.99
https://www.overclockers.co.uk/seasonic-focus-gx-650-650w-80-gold-modular-power-supply-ca-06v-ss.htm = £94.99
https://www.overclockers.co.uk/scythe-scmg-5100-mugen-5-rev.b-cpu-cooler-hs-046-sy.html = £43.99
https://www.overclockers.co.uk/wd-b...-solid-state-drive-wds100t3b0c-hd-589-wd.html = £99.95
T= £652.90

so not much in it cost wise for the two builds., maybe a bit of a tweak on options and i could have a decent build for £600 . . . ?

Are you planning to resuse your old 6600gt ? The 12400f and 5600 are both lacking an integrated gpu so would not be a working PC without a dedicated gpu.

If you want a chip with an igpu then you have to go for a 5600g for AMD or 12400 or 12400K for Intel. I would assume even the Intel igpu would outperform the ancient 6600gt.
If you are planning to go for the 5600G it does have some downsides , it is only pcie 3 so you may as well go for a B450 mobo and save some money and it will limit future upgrades you may want to make.
i forgot to update my current specs. my current GPU is a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 .
