My 8 year old computer has finally died.

I need a new one for:
- Programming
- Running some Virtual Machines
- Occasionally doing image editing with light room
- Pentesting/Malware stuff

I don't play games.

My initial idea came out at a cost of £1334  - I need to decide on my budget really, but what are your thoughts on this:

CPU: Intel Core i7-7700k 4.2GHz (£328)
Mobo: Asus Z270E 1151 ATX (£188)
RAM: Corsair Vengeance Red LED 32GB - DDR4 3466GHz (£240)
Graphics: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1060 6GB GDDR5 (£232.52)
SSD: Sandisk 480GB (£137)

Case:
Cool Master CM690 III Black Edition with side panel (£80)
Power Supply: Corsair RM850x with full modular cables (£119)
+ Card Reader (£16)

The only area I think I can save on is the Graphics Card. I really want an i7 CPU and really want 32GB of RAM as well.

A friend said that some of the AMD Graphics Cards are much cheaper and may be more suited to what I want.

Any thoughts on this?

Thanks

Hi

I would for some solid reviews on Ryzen before buying anything. If they are as good as they look on paper, then you will be able to get an 8 core/16 thread cpu for £320. They are due for release at the beginning of March (1st week) so not long to go.

You also won't need an 850W psu. A 450W/550W would do fine.

Surprised with the power supply unit suggestions.

About 10 years ago when I built my current PC I bought a PSU about 500w. Had some weird things happen like lagging and it turning off, strange. I chagned to an 800w PSU and it worked brilliantly. How come you're all saying I only need a lower powered one? Has the technnology moved on?.

It feels weird not having a Graphics Card.... I also quite like the idea that if I did want to play a game I could....

In short, I want a really high spec PC for half it's cost! (haha........)

Parts are all becoming a lot more efficient nowadays. you could get two of the fastest gpus available on a 800w psu. I actually think manufacturers are being pushed into getting better power systems to save the trees or something. I have no doubt that we would still have power hungry coal guzzling monsters if the government hadn't done something. Arguably causing us to have slower pcs today than we would have had otherwise.
