I put together my new PC last night. Unfortunatley it didn't appear to boot up.

When powered on all the fans activated but nothing else happened.

Not sure whether it is a motherboard issue or the graphic card (as I got not display and a couple of red lights were lit up need the PCI-E power connector, is this normal for this card?).

The headline spec is:

E6600 Conroe
P5W-DH
Connect3D ATI Radeon X1900 XT 512MB GDDR3 AVIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI
Crucial 1GB (2x512MB) DDR2 PC2-6400C4 800MHz Ballistix Dual Channel Kit
Antec Sonata II Piano Black Quiet Case - 450W Smart Power PSU

Would greatly appreciate any help you can give.

You need the PCIe connectors attached to the card if it has the connector on it. (And thats most modern cards that do). If the bored or something else was broken then you'd hear beeps (or possibly no beeps if you removed RAM and it was the board that was busted).

Thanks for your suggestions.

No there are no beeps when switching on and the PCIe power connector is plugged into the graphics card.

Any other ideas?

Remove the ram from the board and try to boot. See if it beeps, if it does the board is prolly fine. Could be a faulty graphics card, do you have any other card you can test it with, and are you sure the monitor is working?

Ok I'll give remove the RAM to see if the board beeps.

Unfortuntely I don't have a spare graphics card I can try and this was my upgrade to PCIe.

I know that the monitor works because it's my previous monitor which was has been fine for the last 2 years and still works with my previous rig.

I've read somewhere that old versions of the P5W-DH needs a BIOS update to work with Core 2 Duo chips. Anyone got any idea how would i know if this was the problem?

If it does need a new bios then I think it would beep a lot because it would think there was no CPU. The boards you speak of were the board that were here right at the very launch (hell just before the launch) of the conroe I think. But afaik Asus have sorted this out. I think they were posting new BIOS chips to people at the time :P

Thanks that's reassuring, at least that's one cause I can eliminate.

Sounds like it's probably an issue with the graphics card then. I'll see if anyone I know can loan me a graphics card, so I can check that out.

You should be able to RMA it. Sucks a bit buying something for a new build and it not working, been there once or twice myself :P.

Yeah it's frustrating, but have requested RMA and so should be sorting soon. The main thing is the problem has been identified and is now being sorted.

Once again thanks for your help.
