I am having some trouble with my new PC, it basically wont start, I have a Abit IP35V motherboard.

I have it all connected, when I switch it on via the powersupply switch the red light on the motherboard lights up to indicate it is getting power.

However when I try to switch it on nothing happens, for a milisecond the DVD rom lit up and then nothing, the fans nor the PSU start up.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

The powersupply is a Antec 500w Basicq, I have attached the 20pin powersupply lead to the motherboard and the 4 pin lead coming off that to the CPU power header, is that the correct way or should I add the 4 pin to the bare 4pins remaining on the motherboard psu socket?

I am kinda gutted as I thought I had everything perfect and was expecting it to boot first time, sadly not though.

The fans are connected directly to the motherboard if that helps.

Thanks

You need 24 pins connected mate, not 20. :) The 4 pin coming off it clips to the side of the 20 to make 24. See pic below.

This pic shows the CPU 4 pin (Circled left) the 24 pin ATX connector and the arrow shows where it splits to 20 pin

There should be another 4 or 8 pin for the smaller socket next to the CPU.

ill echo the previous post. 24 plus a separate 4 which you have connected already

Failing that, try running minimum hardware ie, GPU, CPU and 1 stick of RAM, also
reset the BIOS.
Check screw heads are not shorting on the motherboard.

This may sound really silly, but have you plugged in the small socket for your Power button (the power buton on the front of the chasis)? I know i made that stupid mistake and was trying to figure it out last night

OK guys thanks for all the responses, basically problem was exactly what you all said. I plugged extra 4pin into the power on the mobo, and also connected the 4pin for the CPU and booted straight away.

Kinda annoyed with myself, would have loved it to work first time but at least its up and running.

Whilst i'm here, are these temperatures ok for a Q6600:

CPU - 44
System - 31

I dont plan on overclocking or anything.

I am having a little issue with the onboard sound, I am confused basically, I attached the HiDef Front panel connector to the motherboard, leaving the AC97 plug alone, it seems like I dont have any sound. I tried to install the audio driver from the CD, it seemed to install fine but nothing happened /shrugs

Am I missing something here?

Looks like I may have found the problem, seems that MS left out something to do with Realtek HD audio in SP3 beta which I am using, going to try a fix now :)

EDIT - WOOT, it worked :)

That SP3 BETA isn't made from Microsoft. I'm sure it's just people that use XP a lot that made up a copy with loads of patches and stuff.
